Job Summary
The Division of Epidemiology within the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Utah seeks a motivated, self-starting, and detail-oriented Clinical Data Manager I to join its staff. The clinical data manager will be housed within the Program for Addiction Research, Clinical Care, Knowledge and Advocacy (PARCKA) https://medicine.utah.edu/internal-medicine/epidemiology/parcka. This position will work closely with the study lead on a range of tasks, including data querying, data compilation, variable construction, data cleaning, building analytical datasets, preparing, and writing reports, and presenting findings. Additional responsibilities may include supporting other study-related activities as needed.
The primary data source for this role is the Veterans Affairs national electronic health records database, a complex but expansive dataset that enables robust investigation of research questions. Much of the work will involve data related to the treatment of opioid use disorder, with a particular focus on buprenorphine as a medication for opioid use disorder (MOUD). The hired candidate will need to be eligible and complete hiring procedures for the University of Utah as well as Veteran's Affairs.
This position offers opportunities to contribute to scholarly outputs, including co-authoring publications, posters, and presentations.
Responsibilities
- Assist the study lead Clinical Data Manager with data management tasks, including but not limited to the following:
- Test and review data validation checks
- Issue and resolve data queries
- Review data listings and identify discrepancies based on current review specifications
- Prepare and review reports.
- Communicate with internal and external study personnel regarding data queries.
- Create data management documents as directed.
- Assist the study lead clinical data manager with other study related activities.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in the life sciences, pharmacy, nursing, a related subject, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience). Clinical data management and/or clinical research experience is preferred but not required. Must be proficient in desktop office applications, and possess the ability to learn new software applications and skills in a dynamic work environment. Must be organized and detail oriented with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
