The Clinical Education Coordinator, Medical Laboratory Technology, must advise students, provide quality classroom, clinical, and laboratory instruction; maintain required scholastic records, and seek continuous improvement of the medical laboratory technology curriculum, instruction, and resources. The Clinical Education Coordinator participates fully in the institutional planning and assessment processes and assists with managing a departmental budget. Primary teaching assignments will be in the Medical Laboratory Technology program. This position requires an adaptable and flexible work schedule.
SALARY SCHEDULE PLACEMENT: Range of $49,366 - $84,048, based upon the Alabama Community College System and Shelton State Community College Salary Schedule C3-3 to be determined by the applicant’s education and years of applicable experience.
Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate effective communication skills
- Functioning in accordance with the philosophy, rules, and regulations of the college, Health Services programs, and area clinical agencies
- Design each course and deliver each class in theory, simulated laboratory, and clinical practice to ensure an effective learning experience
- Develop, implement, and teach courses using distance learning technology (i.e., internet, course management system, etc.), video courses, and courses taught via other non-traditional delivery methods as required
- Maintain a high level of competence and expertise in clinical practice
- Incorporate current teaching techniques, subject area developments, and technology (if applicable) into the learning experience
- Plan clinical rotation schedules to meet student-learning outcomes
- Provides simulated laboratory, clinical/or theory instruction in accordance with approved course outlines
- Inform students concerning course requirements, evaluation procedures, attendance requirements, and academic progress
- Provide for effective evaluation of the learning experience of each student
- Maintain necessary attendance, scholastic, and personnel records and submit all reports according to announced deadlines
- Prepare and grade assignments, projects, and examinations as required
- Submit to the Director a course plan for each course taught
- Participate in the planning of effective long-range goals for the department
- Demonstrate effective interpersonal skills
- Demonstrate responsible work ethic (i.e., preparation and punctuality) with administration, faculty, staff, and students
- Assist with developing and managing a departmental budget in support of the Annual Plan
- Maintaining good working relationships with area clinical agencies and co-workers
- Collaborate with teaching teams in curriculum development, implementation, evaluation, revision, syllabi review, classroom, and clinical instruction
- Accept teaching assignments, which may include day, evening, and weekend classes as well as off-campus sites
- Participate in recruiting for the Medical Laboratory Technology Department
- Serve as an academic advisor to assigned students
- Participates in scheduled college and departmental meetings
- Demonstrate commitment to maintaining accrediting agency requirements
Secondary Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Post and maintain regular office hours in accordance with the prevailing policy
- Participating in discussions and meetings about curriculum, teaching-learning techniques, and teaching materials

Other Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Comply with policies of the Alabama Community College System and the College
- Serve on College committees as required
- Participate in professional development, compliance, performance excellence, and training activities as required
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited institution
- Medical laboratory scientist/medical technologist who is certified as ASCP-BOC (American Society for Clinical Pathology - Board of Certification) or AMT (American Medical Technologists)
- Three (3) years of full-time clinical experience as a clinical or medical laboratory practitioner
- Experience in course development and in student instruction, supervision, evaluation, guidance, and academic counseling
Preferred:
- Teaching experience in a post-secondary medical laboratory technology program
- Experience in developing/teaching courses via distance learning technology
- Experience in course development and in student instruction, supervision, evaluation, guidance, and academic counseling
- Knowledge of state and national accreditation requirements
