Your Role on the Team

Position Summary:

The Clinical Excellence Specialist conducts projects and performs work duties that support clinical excellence programs, including but not limited to required and non-required registries, maintenance/improvement of patient safety indicators clinical pathways, peer review and sepsis. The Clinical Excellence Specialist will be responsible for ensuring that assigned clinical quality measures comply with all relevant regulations, standards, and best practices, as well as identifying areas for improvement and implementing solutions to enhance the quality of patient care. The Clinical Excellence Specialist is responsible for performing efficient, accurate and thorough chart review to abstract and validate clinical quality measures. The Specialist monitors and evaluates clinical performance metrics, analyzes data, and identifies opportunities for improvement in patient outcomes, clinical processes, and patient safety. The Clinical Excellence Specialist collaborates with cross-functional teams including medical staff, clinical operations, HIM, coding and other relevant stakeholders to ensure that clinical quality measures are met. The Specialist conducts audits and assessments of clinical practices, processes, and documentation to identify deficiencies and facilitate corrective actions.

What It Takes to be Successful

Required Qualifications:

  • 2 or more years of related experience; quality and patient safety experience.
  • Bachelor's Degree in healthcare administration, public health, nursing or other relevant field
  • Knowledge and use of quality improvement, EPIC and chart abstraction.
  • Ability to effectively interview individuals and groups from diverse professional backgrounds.
  • Maintain strictness confidentiality of information.
  • Ability to collect event information and organize into a coherent narrative.
  • Highly self-motivated. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and adhere to work deadlines.
  • Ability to inspire trust and be seen as someone who provides support and assistance.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent presentation skills including ability to speak before large audiences and prepare and provide presentations.
  • Ability to prioritize and contribute to simultaneous projects and facilitate teamwork among project staff / participants
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office Suite applications with emphasis on Excel and Visio
  • Ability to analyze reports and create corrective action items.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills to communicate effectively with physicians, managers and high-level administrative staff as well as support staff who are critical to departmental functions
  • Resourcefulness to identify and search for information that is not readily available
  • Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Related Field
  • Certification in patient safety, risk management, or quality improvement (e.g., Certified Professional in Patient Safety) is highly preferred.
