The Transactional Law Clinics (TLC) provides community-oriented legal representation to transactional clients, including entrepreneurs, small businesses, social enterprises, non-profit organizations, community groups, and individuals and companies in the entertainment industry and creative fields. The Clinical Instructor (CI) works with the Director and other staff to operate TLC, guiding students on a broad range of civil matters such as general business, corporate, intellectual property, community economic development, non-profit, entertainment, and other transactional legal areas.
Responsibilities include:
- Teaching, mentoring, supervising, evaluating, and structuring the practice work of law school students in representing clients.
- Carrying a caseload as the lead attorney on TLC client cases.
- Participating in the classroom component of TLC and assisting with curriculum development.
- Assisting in marketing and community outreach efforts to develop relationships with client communities.
- Participating in office-wide projects and contributing to the clinic as a laboratory for innovation in practice and clinical legal education.
- Guiding the Student Practice Organization (SPO), such as the Harvard Law Entrepreneurship Project (HLEP), as needed.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
Qualifications require a J.D. earned at least 3 years ago, at least 3 years of relevant experience, and admission to the Massachusetts bar or eligibility for temporary admission. Additional skills include experience in mentoring, practicing in relevant legal areas, managing caseloads, and working collaboratively.
