The role/Te mahi

We are seeking to appoint a Clinical Lecturer/Sonographer within the Centre for Rural Health’s Clinician-Performed Ultrasound (CPU) team. This position provides the opportunity to work within a team that is committed to improving health outcomes for all through high quality research and teaching. Appointment will be dependent on academic achievement, skills, and experience.

This position would ideally be based in Dunedin with occasional travel to Central Otago to deliver teaching residentials.

Skills and experience/Kā pūkeka me kā wheako

We are looking for a qualified general sonographer to deliver the General Medical ultrasound paper and teach in conjunction with the echocardiographer teaching the cardiac paper. Although two separate papers, they are taught concurrently in their delivery so the successful applicant must be a team player.

The ideal candidate will have enthusiasm and passion for ultrasound and an interest in Clinician-Performed ultrasound. Previous experience in ultrasound teaching is desirable but not essential as support will be given by the Clinical Director.

Key Tasks

•    With respect to the Postgraduate Certificate in Clinician Performed Ultrasound:

   - Teach the Programme reporting to the Director of CPU.

   - Coordinate other resource experts.

   - Prepare and deliver small group lectures

•    Undertake distance teaching via the university's interactive web-based teaching site and audioconferences.

•    Undertake hands on teaching at residential workshops.

•    Set and mark assessments and examinations in co-ordination with the Director Clinician-Performed Ultrasound.

•    Collaborate within others in the department to develop programmes in ultrasound education.

•    Collaborate with others in the Medical School in the development of clinician performed ultrasound education.

This is a part-time (0.5 FTE) fixed-term position available initially from 12 March 2026 until 30 November 2026. Ideally this candidate would live in the Dunedin region. This position may be able to be shared by more than one candidate.

Appointment will be at the appropriate step dependent on academic achievement, skills and experience.
