Clinical Research Technician

This is the entry level position on the Michigan Medicine CRC Career Ladder. This position provides administrative and coordination support for multiple projects in the conduct of clinical research projects. In addition to general study activities, this role will deliver structured health coaching sessions as part of research protocols. The Clinical Research Health Coach supports participant engagement, assists with behavioral intervention delivery, and supports the conduct of clinical research studies such as registries, long-term follow-up cohorts, and qualitative research. This position will not independently coordinate clinical trials.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Deliver structured health coaching interventions to research participants following standardized protocols.
  • Support participant engagement through motivational interviewing, goal-setting, and adherence support.
  • Document health coaching sessions in accordance with study and regulatory standards.
  • Assist with participant scheduling, study visit coordination, and follow-up activities.
  • Communicate concerns about participant safety or engagement to study leadership.
  • Support data entry, quality checks, and administrative tasks related to study operations.
  • Collaborate with clinical research coordinators, investigators, and intervention teams to maintain intervention fidelity.

Supervision Received: This position receives direct supervision and reports directly to Program Manager or Clinical Research Coordinator Senior.

Supervision Exercised: None.

CRC Technician

  • Associate degree in Health Science or an equivalent combination of related education and experience is necessary.
  • Minimum 1 year of directly related experience in clinical research and clinical trials is necessary. (Please review SoCRAs Definition of a Clinical Research Professional for qualifying experience prior to applying.) or An advanced degree in a health-related areas such as: Health Sciences, Behavioral Sciences, Public Health, Health Care Administration, Clinical Research Administration, Social Work, Psychology, Epidemiology, Foreign MD. or Minimum 3 years of human subject experience (clinical, lab or health regulations) such as related patient care, related community health and wellness, related clinical information, and research.

CRC Assistant:

  • High school diploma or GED is necessary.

Clinical Research Technician

  • Bachelors degree in psychology, social work, public health, biological sciences, or a related field.
  • Health Coach certification (e.g., NBC-HWC, ACE Health Coach, Wellcoaches, or equivalent training).
  • Experience working with individuals in supportive, coaching, counseling, or participant-facing roles.
  • Experience providing behavioral support, motivational interviewing, or patient education.
  • Strong communication skills and comfort working with participants managing chronic health conditions.
  • An understanding of medical terminology, experience in a large complex health care setting, ability to effectively communicate with staff and faculty of all levels, and knowledge of university policies and procedures is desirable.

Clinical Research Assistant

  • Associate Degree in Health Science or an equivalent combination of related education and experience is desirable. An understanding of medical terminology, experience in a large complex health care setting, ability to effectively communicate with staff and faculty of all levels, and knowledge of university policies and procedures is desirable.

This position is fully in-person and may require evening or Saturday availability to accommodate participant scheduling needs, 40 hours per week; exceptions may be considered to allow a fixed 20-40 hours a week part-time position (e.g., 3 days per week).

This position may be underfilled at the CRC-Assistant title based on selected candidates, qualifications. In addition to general study activities, this role will deliver structured health coaching sessions as part of research protocols. The Clinical Research Health Coach supports participant engagement, assists with behavioral intervention delivery, and supports the conduct of clinical research studies such as registries, long-term follow-up cohorts, and qualitative research. This position will not independently coordinate clinical trials.

This position is term-limited for about 2 years with the possibility of renewal based on need and available funding. At the end of the stated term, your appointment will terminate and will not be eligible for Reduction-in-Force (RIF) benefits. This term-limited appointment does not create a contract or guarantee of employment for any period of time as you will remain subject to disciplinary or other performance measures, up to and including termination, at the will of the University in accordance with existing University policy and standards for employee performance and conduct.
