Job Preview
Hopedale Medical Complex is seeking a compassionate and dependable Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) to join our Hospital team on a part-time basis. The CNA provides direct patient care and supports the professional nursing staff in caring for patients with a variety of illnesses, injuries, and healthcare needs.
This position is primarily based in the Hospital, while also providing an excellent opportunity to cross-train and gain experience in other areas of HMC. CNAs may be asked to float to the Nursing Home and Commons Assisted Living facility when staffing needs arise. This cross-training opportunity allows CNAs to expand their skills, work with different patient and resident populations, and gain valuable experience across multiple areas of HMC.
Schedule & Compensation
Part-Time Night Shift: 6:00 p.m. – 6:00 a.m.

Starting Pay: $18.00 per hour

Night Shift Differential: Additional $3.00 per hour

Weekend Differential: Additional $4.00 per hour

Rotating weekends and holidays as assigned
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Patient Care
-
Provide direct patient care under the direction and supervision of licensed nursing staff.
-
Assist patients with activities of daily living, including bathing, grooming, hygiene, toileting, dressing, and personal care.

Assist patients with meals and provide feeding assistance when needed.
-
Obtain and record vital signs and promptly report changes in patient condition to the appropriate nursing staff.
-
Assist patients with mobility, ambulation, transfers, and repositioning to promote safety, comfort, and independence.

Assist patients with transfers between beds, wheelchairs, chairs, and other areas as directed.

Reposition patients as needed to promote comfort and help prevent skin breakdown and pressure injuries.

Assist with toileting and bathroom needs while maintaining patient dignity, privacy, and safety.

Prepare patient rooms with necessary supplies and equipment, including linens, blankets, pillows, and bathroom supplies.

Maintain clean, organized, and safe patient-care areas.
-
Follow nursing instructions and established procedures when providing patient care.

Encourage and assist patients with appropriate mobility and ambulation activities.
Communication and Teamwork

Collaborate with nurses and other members of the healthcare team to provide safe, compassionate, and quality patient care.

Promptly communicate changes in patient condition, safety concerns, or other pertinent information to nursing staff.

Demonstrate professionalism, dependability, and a positive attitude when interacting with patients, families, visitors, and coworkers.

Treat every patient with dignity, respect, compassion, and confidentiality.

Provide courteous and compassionate customer service and contribute to a positive patient experience.
Cross-Training and Float Responsibilities

Maintain flexibility to work in other HMC care settings when staffing needs arise.

Cross-train and float to the Nursing Home and Commons Assisted Living facility as assigned.

Adapt to the needs and routines of different patient and resident populations while maintaining HMC standards of care.

Demonstrate willingness to learn and perform duties appropriate to each assigned care setting.

Participate in required education, training, and competency assessments.
Required Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Current Illinois Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification required.

Current CPR certification required.

Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous hospital, long-term care, assisted living, or direct patient-care experience preferred.

Experience working with patients of varying ages and levels of acuity preferred.

Previous experience in multiple healthcare settings is a plus.

Willingness and ability to cross-train and float between HMC departments and care settings.
Physical Requirements

Constantly (67–100%): Standing, walking, talking, hearing, near visual acuity, and use of hands and fingers for patient care, documentation, and equipment operation.

Frequently (34–66%): Reaching, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, repositioning patients, assisting with transfers, and assisting patients with mobility and activities of daily living.

Occasionally (11–33%): Lifting and carrying supplies and equipment up to 50 pounds, with appropriate body mechanics and assistance or mechanical equipment when available.

As needed: Assist patients with transfers to and from beds, wheelchairs, chairs, and bathroom facilities; assist with meals and other activities of daily living.

Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.

Ability to safely perform patient-care activities that may require standing, walking, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, and assisting with patient movement.
Work Environment
Work is performed primarily in a hospital patient-care environment with direct contact with patients of varying ages and levels of acuity. The employee may also be assigned to the Nursing Home or Commons Assisted Living facility as staffing needs arise.
The position may involve exposure to infectious diseases, bodily fluids, cleaning products, and other healthcare-related hazards. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) will be provided and must be used in accordance with HMC policies and procedures.
The CNA must be able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, respond appropriately to changing patient needs, and maintain professionalism and compassion during routine and emergency situations.
Background Check and Drug Screen
All HMC employees are required to successfully complete applicable federal and state background checks and a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.
HMC's drug screening process includes testing for substances prohibited under HMC policy, including cannabis (THC), consistent with applicable law and organizational requirements.
