Position:
The College of Education invites applications for a tenure-track, 9-month Assistant Professor position in the Department of Early Childhood Education. Preferred start date is August, 2026.
Qualifications:
Doctoral degree in in early childhood education, child development, curriculum and instruction, teacher education, or related fields. ABD applicants with on-going progress will be considered, if all degree requirements are complete by June 1, 2027. Commitment to excellence in teaching. Evidence of sustained commitment to working in partnership with public schools, children and families and/or other early childhood setting. Demonstrated success or potential to teach a wide variety of early childhood and/or gifted education courses at the undergraduate and graduate level. As we transition to a Research 2 university, the successful candidate will demonstrate the potential to develop a strong body of scholarship using an innovative, collaborative, or interdisciplinary research agenda. Applicants are expected to have three or more years’ experience working in public schools, Head Start programs, and/or other early childhood settings.
Responsibilities:
Faculty will be assigned an instructional workload of six (6) course units per academic year, which may include supervising student interns off campus. Undergraduate advising is part of teaching responsibilities. Scholarly research productivity, programmatic assessment activity, and service to the department, college, and university are expected. Candidates may be asked to teach in person on campus and/or via online formats and may have additional duties based upon applicant qualifications and departmental needs.

The Department of Early Childhood Education is distinguished nationally and regionally by its breadth, expertise and innovative practices. Towson University’s College of Education has been a leader in teacher preparation for over 150 years, and its programs are recognized for their high quality and innovation. The programs in the Department of Early Childhood Education have been Nationally Recognized by National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). ECED offers an undergraduate program, a Master’s of Education in Early Childhood Education, and a Master’s of Education in Gifted and Creative Education (Pre-K-12).

Targeted salary range: $70,000 commensurate with experience.
