For the Complexities Seminar Proposal: Complexities Seminars meet once per week for a double class period (two 75-minute sessions, back-to-back, with a 15 minute break between them). The course is built around a shared library of course materials, which individual instructors are welcome to supplement in their own class sections.. A description of the seminar program can be found at this link . It is expected that every seminar will include at least two (2) modules drawn from the natural sciences, (2) from the social sciences, and (2) from the humanities, and that roughly 2/3 of the course will be composed of materials from the shared resources library. Individual instructors are welcome to fill the remaining 1/3 of the course either with other materials from the shared library or of their own design. NOTE: It is neither expected nor required that applicants? proposals will include new material. For the proposal, please give a weekly schedule of classes. In addition, please give a narrative description, not more than two (2) pages, single-spaced, in which you discuss your reasons for choosing the course modules to include and how you see them connecting over the weeks of the semester. Should you wish to include class excursions, note that they need either to be readily accessible from campus within the assigned class period or to be such that students can complete them on their own schedules. Complexities Seminars typically are designed around a series of integrative course assignments, often with an intellectually culminating individual or group project. NOTE: You are welcome to include proposed course assignments, especially of creative projects; but keep in mind that there is also a collection of course assignments and activities in the wider shared resources library that others have had success with in the past, and that it is neither expected nor required that applicants? proposals will include new, detailed plans for course requirements.
