Monday–Friday: 8-hour shifts on-site between 8:00 AM and 8:00 PM. *Schedules are established each semester and may vary based on lab operational hours. *Assigned shifts apply only to the current semester and are subject to change in subsequent semesters.
Salary Range: Hourly from $21.89 to $30.58; Annually from $45,706 to $63,851 *Salary placement is dependent on education and experience

ABOUT THE POSITION
The Biology Learning Center (BLC) serves about 3000 students annually at Normandale Community College (NCC) and is a unique learning facility that provides individualized and self-paced laboratory experiences for students. The College Laboratory Assistant 2 position exists to assist in the operation and maintenance of the BLC particularly in solution, media, and material preparation, and to provide assistance to students. Under limited supervision the incumbent performs technical work within the BLC; Prepares and sets up lab activities; assists students in carrying out laboratory experiments and answers questions related to lab exercises and procedures; oversees daily activities of the laboratory; performs related work as required.
This position reports to the Academic Operations Supervisor and works collaboratively with biology faculty to support all aspects of the division’s efforts in support of the college’s strategic framework. The framework includes three college goals: achieve racial equity in educational outcomes by 2025; achieve associate degree or baccalaureate transfer completion rate of 50% or better for degree-seeking students by 2030; and support and sustain a pervasive institutional culture that is culturally competent and service oriented.
This position will actively advance the college’s strategic goals, including achieving equity in educational outcomes and supporting a culturally responsive and service-oriented culture, through individual and departmental efforts.
YOUR QUALIFICATIONS
ESSENTIAL: These qualifications are required to move forward; as such, (ensure your application contains descriptions of your education and work experience sufficient to demonstrate competency in each of the following):
Minimum Qualifications (expected to have to enter job)
Associates degree or higher degree in biology OR an equivalent combination of education and work experience in related field.
Other knowledge, skills, and abilities that we will be interviewing for:
Ability to demonstrate problem solving skills.
Ability to work with students and staff from diverse backgrounds.
Administrative skills sufficient for record keeping and organization of the lab.
Preferred Qualifications (desired but not expected to have to enter job)
Bachelor’s degree in biology
Coursework in chemistry, general biology, molecular biology, and microbiology
Proficiency with microscopy, aseptic technique, culturing and isolation of bacteria, preparation of microbiological media and other reagents.
Knowledge of pH meters, spectrophotometers, analytical balances, and preparation of chemical reagents
Ability to effectively communicate with students, staff, faculty, and supervisor.
Demonstrated ability to maintain clean, organized, and well–managed work environments
Strong attention to detail and adherence to established workplace standards
