Position Overview
Te Kunenga ki Pūrehuroa | Massey University is seeking a dynamic College of Sciences Communications Advisor to join our team. This is a full-time, fixed-term role for 3 years, commencing in October 2025, based on our beautiful Palmerston North campus.
This role is central to supporting best-practice communications across the College of Sciences. You’ll help protect and enhance Massey University’s reputation externally, particularly across the food, agriculture, horticulture, veterinary, natural sciences, construction, and information sciences sectors. Your work will strengthen the public profile of the College through high-quality communications, effective storytelling, and strategic engagement.
About the role
In this position, you will:
- Develop and deliver communications strategies and plans.
- Manage crisis communications, issues management, and media relations when required.
- Create engaging written content to promote the College’s teaching and research.
- Work collaboratively with University Communications and Marketing teams to ensure alignment across channels, including social media.
- Engage with staff, students, and stakeholders to share Massey’s science stories with impact.
The salary range for this role is $68,864 – $97,902 per annum based on skills and experience.
About you
We are looking for a candidate who brings:
- A relevant tertiary qualification and/or significant experience in communications, PR, or journalism.
- At least 5 years’ experience in a communications role, ideally with exposure to science, technology, or research.
- Exceptional writing and editing skills.
- Strong organisational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- A collaborative, team-focused approach with the confidence to take initiative and engage stakeholders at all levels.
