College Safety and Security Officer
Washington County Community College is seeking a dedicated and professional Campus Security Officer to join our team. The officer is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors by patrolling campus buildings and grounds, monitoring security systems, securing facilities, completing daily activity reports and incident reports as needed. Duties also include conducting inspections and monthly audits of campus facilities, promoting crime prevention and safety awareness through training and after-hours escorts, and coordinating with local police and fire authorities when necessary. The officer responds to violations, investigates complaints and disturbances, de-escalates conflicts, and responds to critical incidents. Additional responsibilities include assisting with security at special events, serving as liaison for SafetyWorks and OSHA inspections, and actively participating in the College Safety Committee. The regular schedule is M-F 2:30pm-11:30pm and the position requires flexibility to work varied shifts, including evenings and weekends, as required.
Minimum Qualifications: An associate degree in Criminal Justice or a related field is required, along with up to two years of experience in law enforcement or security, preferably in an educational setting. The ideal candidate will possess strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, as well as excellent oral and written communication abilities. This role requires independence, initiative, and sound judgment, along with the ability to work collaboratively. The successful candidate must be capable of operating effectively within policy and procedures and without direct supervision while consistently demonstrating proactive security practices and have knowledge of safety standards and emergency response protocols, and the ability to de-escalate conflicts.
Salary and Benefits: This position is classified as MSEA Unit, Range 12, with an annual salary of $41,600 to $43,500, commensurate with credentials and experience.
