The Universidad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) invites applications for a Communication and Science Dissemination Support Staff position (PACP2 – Bachelor's degree or equivalent, MECES 2) within the research line "Pathology of Stranded Cetaceans."
The position is associated with the research project:
"Identification of the Main Threats to the Health and Conservation Status of Protected Marine Megafauna Species in the Canary Islands Demarcation"
Project reference: FB2025-SAFAMAR
The project is funded by the Biodiversity Foundation (Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge – MITECO) and has an execution period until 30 September 2028.
The selected candidate will provide support for the communication, science dissemination and exploitation of the project's results and outputs, under the supervision of the IUSA-ULPGC project management team and the SAFAMAR Project Manager.
The SAFAMAR project aims to analyse the impact of anthropogenic activities and identify potential anomalies associated with climate change affecting threatened marine megafauna in the Canary Islands, particularly cetaceans, sea turtles and elasmobranchs. The project combines scientific research and health monitoring with communication and public outreach activities designed to promote awareness and participation in marine conservation.
Main Responsibilities
The selected candidate will contribute to the communication, dissemination and exploitation activities of the SAFAMAR project, including:
- Designing, planning and defining the scope of communication, science dissemination and exploitation activities.
- Implementing institutional communication and science dissemination activities.
- Coordinating the collection of information and contributions from the IUSA-ULPGC research team.
- Producing communication and dissemination materials, including:
- Public reports
- Presentations
- Press releases
- Website content
- Social media content
- Brochures
- Infographics
- Newsletters
- Audiovisual materials
- Managing documentation and communication evidence, collecting communication metrics and supporting dissemination reporting.
- Coordinating communication with research groups, collaborating organisations, specialised suppliers and regional, national and international networks.
- Supporting procurement procedures related to communication activities, such as graphic design, audiovisual production, events, printing, hosting and consultancy.
- Managing and updating the project's website, social media, mailing activities, institutional materials and visual identity.
- Participating in meetings, committees and working groups related to communication, dissemination and exploitation at regional, national and international level.
- Preparing minutes, monitoring reports and communication impact reports.
- Aligning SAFAMAR's communication activities with other IUSA-ULPGC projects and activities in order to maximise visibility and institutional impact.
Science Dissemination
A key responsibility will be to support the design and implementation of a science dissemination programme aimed at communicating the project's results and highlighting the work of the Canary Islands network for stranded cetaceans, sea turtles and elasmobranchs.
The programme will promote the importance of One Health and adapt its communication activities to different social groups, including people with functional diversity and audiences with limited access to science. It will also seek to encourage scientific vocations among young people and strengthen the visibility of women in science.

Benefits
- Contract type: Permanent position linked to a research line/project.
- Job status: Part-time.
- Working hours: 20 hours per week.
- Working schedule: Monday to Friday, 08:00–12:00.
- Workplace: Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University Institute of Animal Health and Food Safety (IUSA), ULPGC.
- Monthly gross salary: €748.19.
- Additional remuneration: Salary supplements may be considered depending on project implementation and budget availability.
- Starting date: 16 September 2026.
Eligibility criteria
The maximum score is 100 points, according to the following criteria.
1. Research and/or Professional Experience – Maximum 50 points
The assessment will consider:
- Professional experience in Research, Development and Innovation (R&D&I) activities in Animal Health: 5 points per year of employment, or proportional scoring by months worked.
- Professional experience in specific communication or science dissemination activities carried out by public or private institutions or organisations involved in R&D&I, and/or under specific contracts within publicly funded competitive research projects in marine animal veterinary pathology: 3 points per year.
- Communication or science dissemination experience in publicly funded competitive research projects in veterinary pathology: 2 points per year.
- Communication or science dissemination experience in other publicly funded competitive research projects: 1 point per year.
The following additional merits will also be considered:
- Indexed scientific publications in marine animal veterinary pathology: 3 points per publication.
- Indexed scientific publications in veterinary pathology: 2 points per publication.
- Indexed scientific publications in veterinary sciences: 1 point per publication.
- Indexed scientific publications in other experimental sciences: 0.5 points per publication.
- Science dissemination publications related to veterinary pathology and/or marine animals: 2 points per publication.
- Other science dissemination publications: 0.5 points per publication.
- International scientific communications in marine animal veterinary pathology: 2 points per communication.

- PhD in Veterinary Sciences: 15 points.
- Other PhD in related Experimental Sciences: 10 points.
- Postgraduate Master's degree in Veterinary Sciences: 5 points per qualification.
- Other postgraduate Master's degrees in related Experimental Sciences: 3 points per qualification.
- National academic awards or distinctions: 2 points per item.
- Training or professional placements in international public or private R&D&I centres: 1 point per month, up to 10 points.
- Training or professional placements in national public or private R&D&I centres: 0.5 points per month, up to 5 points.
3. Other Merits – Maximum 10 points
English language:
- C2: 10 points
- C1: 5 points
Other non-national languages:
- B1 or higher: 2 points per language, up to a maximum of 4 points.
4. Personal Interview – Maximum 20 points
The interview will only be conducted with candidates who obtain at least 55 points in sections 1–3.
Candidates will be invited to the interview with at least 48 hours' notice.
The interview will assess:
- Initiative and teamwork skills – maximum 4 points.
- Ability to present and communicate results – maximum 4 points.
- Knowledge of the languages included in the application – maximum 4 points.
- Motivation – maximum 4 points.
- Suitability of the candidate's profile and skills for the functions of the position – maximum 4 points.
