The position works closely with academic units, faculty, and team members to help identify story opportunities and develop clear, engaging content for a variety of audiences. In addition to feature stories, the role contributes to web content, employee communications, and other messaging that supports college priorities and aligns with the college and university’s mission and vision.
The ideal candidate is a strong writer and editor who is comfortable working in a deadline-driven environment, able to manage multiple assignments, and skilled at translating complex or technical information into clear, compelling narratives.
Essential Functions
- Assist in developing and writing articles, stories, and messages that support the University's goals.
- Help produce various communications, including speeches, articles, web content, and employee communications, presentations, and correspondence, in a deadline-driven environment.
- Collaborate with team members to research and assist in writing and editing various content pieces.
- Support the identification of trends and opportunities to feature UC through timely and relevant storytelling in ways that support the university's mission.
- Help create media strategies and outreach plans to inform the public about the University's programs and accomplishments.
- Maintain files, review drafts and documents for accuracy and grammar.
- Communicate messages clearly to a variety of audiences.
- Assists in the preparation of reports, presentations, and related materials that support university leadership activities.
- Respond to media inquiries and direct them to the appropriate parties.

Required Education
Bachelor's Degree Required
Five (5) years of relevant work experience an/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of education requirement
Required Experience
One (1) year of relevant experience required
Additional Qualifications Considered
- Experience writing articles, feature stories, or similar long-form content for a professional, academic, or organizational audience
- Demonstrated ability to translate complex or technical information into clear, engaging, and accessible content
- Experience conducting interviews and gathering information from a variety of sources, including faculty, staff, or subject matter experts
- Experience developing content for websites or digital platforms, including familiarity with content management systems
- Experience creating or contributing to internal communications, such as newsletters, email communications, or employee messaging
- Strong editorial skills, including writing, proofreading, and attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple writing assignments and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders
- Ability to take initiative and contribute ideas within a collaborative team environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
