Position Summary
The Department of General Education & Transfer at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College is seeking part-time Communication instructors for the adjunct pool to teach day and night classes on campus and online. Campus assignments may include South, North, College Station, NCRC, CBTC, or Virtual. A part-time faculty member teaches students and facilitates learning in an assigned academic discipline. Their primary focus is direct student teaching, preparation and assessment of instruction, and appropriate support of learners. All academic professionals are expected to know and follow College policies and to respect the academy. Faculty may be assigned a teaching schedule that includes any college location and, at times, meets student, program, and college needs.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Successfully prepare, manage, and deliver course content in order to achieve course objectives, accommodate diverse learning styles, and meet student learning outcomes.
- Actively engage students and provide prompt, objective, respectful, and effective feedback.
- Communicate and follow the course syllabus content in accordance with directions provided and administrative guidance.
- Work collaboratively with the Colleges support services to identify and address the students academic support needs.
- Utilize College technology for the delivery of instruction and completion of operational processes; this includes but is not limited to the Colleges learning management system, email and calendaring solution, document management system(s), student information system, and employee portals.
- Meet deadlines, including maintaining and submitting accurate class records, employee records/requests, and other assigned tasks.
- When applicable, ensure laboratories are appropriately stocked with required supplies and that equipment is in safe operating order.
- Facilitate a positive, student-centered, and professional environment among students, faculty, and staff.
Required Education/Experience
- Master's degree in communications
- Basic computer skills required (email, ability to learn and be comfortable with Blackboard), etc.
- We also require flexibility in schedule (days/times) as well as the ability to drive to multiple campuses (our campuses range from Concord to Salisbury, NC).
- Educational requirements vary by course.
