Required Qualifications
- Skilled in writing clear, concise press releases and feature stories that are distributed to the media and other constituents
- One-two years experience working in a collegiate or professional athletics communications office with direct sport responsibilities as a full-time employee and/or graduate assistant
- Advanced knowledge of Genius and statistical software for assigned sports
- Ability to collaborate with internal teams and campus partners to maintain high-quality website and social media storytelling content
- Support TXST Brand Ambassadors (student and intern staff) in day-to-day operations, game coverage and special events
- Assist in managing creative projects from concept through completion to highlight TXST student-athletes, coaches and staff, ensuring alignment with brand standards
- Bachelor’s degree with additional consideration to applicants who possess a Master’s degree
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work evenings and both days of the weekend
Preferred Qualifications
- Two-three years experience working in a collegiate or professional athletics communications office with direct sport responsibilities as a full-time employee and/or graduate assistant
- Proficient with Adobe Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Premiere, Lightroom)
- Experience in managing and growing team social media accounts and platforms
Job Description
Texas State University is seeking applications for the position of Communications Coordinator to assist in the operation of the Communications Office. This position is full-time and benefits eligible and reports to the Associate Athletics Director, Communications. This position is responsible for the creation of sports-related content and storytelling, serving as the primary media contact for assigned sports, assisting with the development and execution of content strategy and updating the athletics website and social media accounts.
Job Duties
Will serve as the primary media contact for a combination of three of the following sports volleyball, soccer, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, baseball or softball including publicity, storytelling and managing social media accounts and content. With respective sports, this role will drive strategy for storytelling on all platforms; write and edit press releases, game previews and recaps and features; develop and maintain good working relationships with media; assist with creating graphics or other creative content; help manage the athletics department website; provide statistical coverage; supervise student workers during coverage of home events; and perform other duties as assigned.
