Carnegie Mellon University is looking for a Communications Manager to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives in an interesting and challenging work environment, managing the communication needs within the College of Engineering.
Core responsibilities include:
- All communications activity related to the College of Engineering. Actively mine, research, develop and create news and feature stories on Engineering content, pertaining to the colleges strategic priorities and current events. Research and gather information for assignments. Conduct research and internal interviews as part of original reporting for print and digital materials
- Assess Communication project needs and objectives. Works with senior management to develop and approve comprehensive communication plan. Determines needs, materials and implementation of communications including medium for delivery and technical resources.
- Acts as a project manager to oversee work and ensure objectives are met. Develops communication materials or implement communications plans. Establishes communication polices or procedures.
- Outline video needs and messaging for primary story delivery and supporting content.
- Oversees vendors involved in the production and delivery of communications. May supervise staff.
- Oversee the graphic design, publication and distribution of developed content and repurpose into it into a variety of formats.
- Assesses effectiveness of campaigns. Solicits feedback from stakeholders and identifies areas for improvement. Incorporates improvements into future communications plans.
- Write a variety of content, including traditional press releases, pitch support documents for the PR team, fact sheets, web content, university magazine stories and other supporting documents in an easy-to-understand format. Help manage and optimize contributions from faculty and administration. Maintain an active interest in the subject matter of the assigned writing beat. Conceptualize and create stories and visual content formats to turn topics into compelling stories to support communication plans.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in communications and/or related field. Masters preferred.
- 5-8 years of relevant experience
- A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated

CMU will not sponsor or take over the sponsorship of an employment visa for this opportunity.
