Communications Manager
Are you an adept communicator with a passion for translating intricate concepts into captivating narratives? The Isaac Newton Institute for Mathematical Sciences (INI) is seeking an experienced Communications Manager to lead our small, dynamic team.
About Us
INI is a national and international visitor research centre running programmes on themes from across the breadth of the mathematical sciences, with applications in a very wide range of societal, scientific and technological areas. The Institute attracts leading scientists from across the world to interact on research over extended periods. Alongside its renown residential programmes, INI now organises a range of satellite programmes across the UK, and has nurtured new national initiatives such as the Academy for the Mathematical Sciences and the Knowledge Exchange Hub. The INI's Newton Gateway to Mathematics acts as a knowledge intermediary for the mathematical sciences, reaching out and engaging with the users of mathematics, in industry, business, public sector and other scientific disciplines. Together, the INI and Newton Gateway facilitate world-class research and innovation across the mathematical sciences.
The role
The Communications Manager plays a key role in the Institute, working collaboratively across the whole team. Supported by the Director and senior management team, they will provide expert communications advice and guidance. They will contribute to the formulation of key messages whether in relation to the Institute's fundraising campaign or in relation to the Institute's longstanding leading role within the national and international mathematical sciences community. A major project to redesign and relaunch the Institute's website will be led by the Communications Manager. The Communications Manager will establish strong working relationships with colleagues within the Department and with visiting researchers, to effectively communicate the programme of activities and promote the research undertaken at the Institute.
The successful candidate will contribute to an evolving communications strategy, elevating the profile and impact of the Institute's scientific activities across diverse audiences. They will work alongside the director, senior management, the Newton Gateway, and external consultants to achieve the strategic goals.
What you will bring to the role
You will have experience of a broad range of communications disciplines e.g. media, reputation management, stakeholder liaison etc., excellent planning, organisational and interpersonal skills, and the ability to build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all levels. The ability to convey scientific and technical topics to a range of audiences through engaging communication is key.
