Communications Specialist II - Honors

The Communications Specialist II will support the mission and strategic goals of the Honors College at North Carolina A&T State University by leading communication and assessment initiatives that promote academic excellence, student achievement, and institutional visibility.

The Specialist is responsible for developing and managing internal and external communications, including digital content, print materials, and promotional campaigns that highlight the accomplishments of Honors students, faculty, and programs. In addition, the position will play a key role in supporting assessment and reporting by collecting, organizing, and presenting data related to student outcomes, program effectiveness, and strategic initiatives.

This role requires strong collaboration with the Associate Dean of Academics, the National Scholarships and Fellowships Coordinator, and university partners to ensure consistent messaging, support recruitment and retention, and contribute to a dynamic and well-rounded academic environment.

Primary Function of Organizational Unit:

The North Carolina A&T State University Honors College is the unit on campus responsible for creating a series of programming, curricular and co-curricular initiatives that assists high-achieving students excel in their college careers. The Honors College has grown to over 950 current students representing nearly every academic department on campus. The A&T Honors College is a community of enthusiastic scholars on campus, preparing students for career-shaping challenges and a lifetime of creative expression and idea exploration. Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, public affairs, media, journalism, English, or a related field from an appropriately accredited institution.
  • Three (3) years of experience in communications, public relations, or publicity work.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Preferred:

  • Master's degree in communications, journalism, public relations, or a related field.
  • Three or more years of experience in higher education or public sector communications.
  • Strong writing and editing skills for various formats, including press releases, reports, and digital content.
  • Experience with content management systems, social media, and digital marketing tools.
  • Familiarity with assessment reporting or data visualization in an academic setting.
  • Proven ability to collaborate across departments and manage multiple projects.
