About the opportunity
Sydney Social Sciences and Humanities Advanced Research Centre (SSSHARC) is a collaborative research centre designed to advance innovative research partnerships and methodologies across the humanities and social sciences. We have a commitment to research excellence and knowledge sharing. We broker and facilitate research exchange between University of Sydney researchers and their outside interlocuters via visiting fellowships, exchanges and a range of in-house initiatives designed to build authentic research partnerships that will grow and change to meet the demands of the future.
We are seeking a Community Engagement and Programs Officer, specialising in research translation and strategic communication, to join the Centre and collaborate across the Faculty to amplify the Centre’s research impact.
In this role, you will shape how the Centre communicates its evidence, insights, and achievements. Working closely with Centre members, University communications teams, and external partners, you will craft clear, compelling, and accessible narratives that promotes the centre’s research and programs.
Key responsibilities will be to work with academics, research partners and colleagues across the University to:
- track and report on the Centre’s work and support continuous improvement in how evidence is communicated and applied
- support centre researchers in communicating their research via the centre website, social media, white papers and other outputs
- coordinate activities designed to engage a diverse range of audiences including workshops and events
- produce targeted materials to engage internal audiences, industry, and general publics.
About you
We are looking for Community Engagement & Programs Officer (Communication and Research Translation) who has:
- tertiary qualification in communications, or professional experience in research translation and commercialisation
- demonstrated experience translating academic research into clear and compelling narratives
- experience working in a start-up or related environment is highly desirable
- excellent writing, editorial and communication skills across multiple formats
- strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build productive relationships with academics, industry partners, government and community organisations
- demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and fast-moving deadlines, with strong organisational and time management skills
- experience producing high-quality written and digital content such as reports, briefs, workplace tools, web content or multimedia materials
- a proactive, problem-solving mindset, with a demonstrated ability to identify opportunities to increase the reach and impact of evidence and insights.
