Department Information
Define and maintain job structures by evaluating roles to ensure accurate job titles, levels, and classifications aligned with organizational needs, governance requirements, and market context. Establish and manage market-driven salary structures that support talent attraction and retention while maintaining internal consistency and alignment with Georgia Tech and the University System of Georgia requirements. Support talent attraction and retention by applying competitive, sustainable, and data-informed compensation practices. Monitor parity and compression to identify pay concerns and inform data-driven recommendations. Advise leaders, managers, and employees on job classification and compensation practices.
Job Summary
The Compensation and Classification Analyst (intermediate level) provides professional-level analytical and consulting support for job classification and compensation activities under established guidelines and general supervision. This role performs job analysis, supports job documentation and career level placement, and assists with market pricing and compensation administration activities of limited scope and complexity, consistent with the Intermediate Professional career level. The intermediate level analyst applies working knowledge of classification and compensation principles to complete diverse, routine, and occasionally moderately complex assignments. This position supports data integrity, recurring analytics, pay actions, and annual compensation cycle activities while collaborating closely with senior team members. Work products are reviewed for accuracy, consistency, and alignment with established practices.
Responsibilities
Job Duty 1 Provide classification and compensation support for assigned client groups by responding to inquiries, gathering required information, and preparing draft analyses and recommendations aligned with established guidelines and practices.
Job Duty 2 Conduct job analyses by collecting and reviewing job information from managers and employees; support job evaluation and career level placement with appropriate documentation and rationale.
Job Duty 3 Draft, review, and update job descriptions to ensure accuracy, clarity, and alignment with classification standards; coordinate with stakeholders to validate job content and organizational context.
Job Duty 4 Support compensation survey and market pricing activities by assisting with job matching, data preparation, survey documentation, and initial review of survey results under guidance.
Job Duty 5 Maintain and update market pricing files, job-matching libraries, survey calendars, and related documentation to ensure consistency, transparency, and audit-readiness.
Job Duty 6 Perform routine compensation and classification analyses (for example, compa-ratio reporting, pay progression metrics, and internal alignment reviews) and summarize findings for review by senior analysts.
Job Duty 7 Support annual salary planning and compensation cycle activities by preparing and validating planning templates, maintaining data accuracy, and assisting with manager and Human Resources inquiries.
Job Duty 8 Process standard compensation transactions (such as new hires, promotions, transfers, and other pay changes) in accordance with established practices; identify issues and escalate exceptions or atypical cases as appropriate.
Job Duty 9 Maintain and validate compensation and classification data in Human Resources systems and planning tools; assist with testing updates and resolving routine workflow or data issues.
Job Duty 10 Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Required Education: Associate degree in a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
Required Experience: Typically 2+ years of relevant professional experience in compensation, classification, Human Resources analytics, or a related field. Experience supporting job analysis, job documentation, or classification reviews. Experience working with compensation data, salary ranges, or market survey information.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Education Bachelor's degree in a related discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience
Preferred Experience Using Human Resources systems or compensation planning tools in a complex organization
Proposed Salary
Pay Range: $65,202-$70,000/yr.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Knowledge Working knowledge of classification principles, job analysis methods, and career level frameworks. Working knowledge of compensation fundamentals, salary structures, and pay administration practices. Familiarity with compensation surveys, job matching, and market data interpretation. Awareness of relevant policies, standards, and wage and hour considerations.
Skills Skill in data analysis, spreadsheet tools, and preparing accurate, well-documented work products. Skill in drafting job documentation and analytical summaries. Skill in organizing data, maintaining documentation, and supporting repeatable processes. Skill in providing responsive and professional customer support.
Abilities Ability to apply established procedures and exercise judgment within defined guidelines. Ability to manage multiple assignments with general supervision and meet deadlines. Ability to interpret and clearly communicate information verbally and in writing. Ability to collaborate effectively with team members and seek guidance as appropriate.
