Compensation Analyst

The Compensation Analyst supports the Human Resources Department in a variety of compensation, job code, job description, grant, stipend, and HRIS functions. This position is responsible for preparing and analyzing compensation data, supporting salary review processes, maintaining job codes and descriptions, processing faculty and postdoctoral appointments, and assisting with grant- and fellowship-related activities.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, analytical, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities while maintaining a high level of accuracy and confidentiality.

Position Responsibilities

Support executive compensation processes, including preparing materials for  Compensation Review and Advisory Committee (CR & AC)  meetings, preparing Board of Trustees materials, and coordinating document distribution.
Prepare reports, correspondence, and mailings for Lab Support/Computational Science and Research Investigator review processes, including annual increase activities and mail merge communications.
Prepare faculty appointment and other HR-related letters for signature and distribution.
Conduct salary determinations and market analyses to support compensation decisions.
Collect, analyze, and prepare salary data for compensation and salary reviews.
Participate in external compensation surveys and analyze survey data as needed.
Process second-job requests, obtain appropriate approvals and signatures, and maintain tracking logs.
Create new job codes and process job code changes as requested.
Maintain and update job descriptions.
Generate and distribute HRIS reports using systems such as Workday.
Run and distribute monthly Faculty Appointment and Job Code reports to appropriate HR, Recruiting, HRIS, Payroll, and other stakeholders.
Process faculty appointment letters and related documentation.
Prepare timekeeping memoranda for newly hired nonexempt full-time employees.
Coordinate graduate student stipend updates with SBS, SBU, and Hofstra.
Process postdoctoral stipend increases, including increases associated with grant-funded positions.
Support wage and hour updates, including exempt employee salary changes and minimum wage increases.
Respond to compensation-related inquiries and provide timely and accurate information.
Prepare annual postdoctoral tax letters for direct-pay grants, including foreign and domestic grants, as required.
Process grants, fellowships, and grant incentives for postdoctoral fellows and graduate students.
Verify applicable foreign exchange rates and complete grant-related reconciliations.
Prepare and distribute monthly grant reports to the Office of Sponsored Programs and Payroll.
Stay current on wage and hour regulations and other relevant HR practices through webinars and professional development activities.
Perform additional HR and compensation-related duties and special projects as assigned.

Position Requirements

Education

Bachelor's degree preferred.

Experience

1–3 years of related experience in Human Resources, Compensation or a similar analytical/business function.

Required Skills and Competencies

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, including the ability to use formulas and perform data analysis.
Basic knowledge of HRIS systems; experience with Workday is preferred.
Strong mathematical and quantitative skills.
Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Flexible, proactive, self-motivated, and able to work independently as well as collaboratively.
Strong follow-through and ability to coordinate with multiple departments and stakeholders.
