Job Duties:

The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences (DOVS) has built a world class reputation for compassionate patient care, cutting edge research, and hands-on training programs for resident physicians and clinical fellows. We are seeking candidates for a comprehensive ophthalmology position that will involve patient care, teaching and support/develop clinical research. The position is estimated at 80% for comprehensive ophthalmology and 20% for academic time. Clinical activities will include patient care at UW Health clinic locations. Teaching activities will involve medical students, residents, and fellows. Research activities may include participation in clinical trials and/or translational research.

This position has been identified as a position of trust with access to vulnerable populations. The selected candidate will be required to pass an initial caregiver check to be eligible for employment under the Wisconsin Caregiver Law and every four years.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Direct medical and surgical care of patients consistent with the scope of a comprehensive ophthalmology practice.
  • A variety of clinical sites are available to practice at UW Health. Potential locations to provide care would be the following: 1 S. Park Clinic, UW East Clinic, Deming Way Clinic, VA Hospital, and/or regional clinics.
  • General ophthalmology call requirements consistent with the standard for DOVS general call expectations.
  • A strong commitment to teaching and mentoring residents, fellows, and medical students.
  • Development/support of clinical or basic science research programs within the department.
  • Involvement in clinical, education or research working groups within the DOVS as appropriate.
  • Commitment to a collegial, productive working relationship with faculty and staff.

Compensation:

The starting salary for the position is negotiable based on experience and qualifications.

Required Qualifications:

  • Board-certified or board eligible for Wisconsin Medical License by start of position.
  • Completion of a U.S. Ophthalmology accredited residency by start date of the position.
  • Relevant experience in clinical practice.
  • Interest in medical student and resident education.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Candidates for Associate Professor (CHS) or full Professor (CHS) rank must meet criteria for appointment at rank per UW School of Medicine and Public Health guidelines for appointment and promotion on the CHS track.

Education:

M.D. or equivalent required.
