Overview
The graduate program at The Ohio State University core covers research methodology; theories and models in consumer sciences; the behavior of households, families and consumers in the market; and the global consumer marketplace.
Degrees are offered in two concentrations:
- Family Resource Management focuses on the allocation of financial and other resources to achieve the goals of the consumer.
- Hospitality and Retail Management focuses on the hospitality-tourism industry and/or investigation of textiles and clothing products and their use by people from behavioral and social-psychological perspectives.
The Doctor of Philosophy in Consumer Sciences prepares you to significantly and positively impact consumers within our world economy. Doctoral studies in consumer sciences allows you to dive deeper into studying consumers and their consumption patterns and decision-making.

- Reaching the 60th percentile on the verbal and on the quantitative components of the GRE or GMAT is to be competitive for support, not an absolute requirement for admission.
- The admission decisions are based on the evaluations of faculty, typically of the faculty who have research interests similar to the applicant.
