Job Summary:

The Controller serves as the College's Chief Accounting Officer and provides strategic and operational leadership for all accounting, financial reporting, treasury, payroll accounting, grants accounting, internal controls, and compliance functions. Reporting directly to the Vice President of Administrative Services and Institutional Effectiveness, the Controller oversees the daily operations of the Business Office, supervising accounting and finance staff responsible for accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll processing, cashiering, grants accounting, and general ledger operations. The position plays a critical leadership role in ensuring the integrity of the College's financial operations while supporting a balanced annual operating budget, multiple funding sources, capital projects, auxiliary enterprises, and numerous federal, state, local, and private grants. The position makes recommendations regarding institutional financial policy, accounting procedures, cash management practices, and operational efficiencies.

Duties & Responsibilities:

1. Serve as the College's Chief Accounting Officer and oversee all accounting, financial reporting, and fiscal operations.
2. The Controller provides leadership for the College's Business Office and supervises accounting work and personnel including general accounting, accounts payable and receivable, payroll, cashiering, grants accounting, fixed assets, Capital Accounting
3. The Controller works collaboratively with Human Resources, Financial Aid, Student Services, Academic Affairs, the Lamar Community College Foundation, and the Colorado Community College System.
4. Direct the functions of general accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, cashiering, grants accounting, fixed assets, and capital construction accounting.
5. Ensure compliance with GAAP, GASB, applicable NACUBO accounting guidance and best practices, Colorado Fiscal Rules, State Board Policies, Colorado Community College System policies, federal regulations including Uniform Guidance (2 CFR Part 200), and all other applicable accounting standards.
6. Prepare and oversee monthly, annual, and ad hoc financial reports, financial statements, and year-end closing activities.
7. Plan, coordinate, and serve as the College's primary liaison for annual financial statement audits, federal Single Audits, state compliance reviews, grant audits, and other financial examinations. Coordinate corrective action plans and monitor implementation of audit recommendations.
8. Oversee accounting and compliance for grants, contracts, and restricted funds, ensuring accurate reporting and stewardship of resources.
9. Establish and maintain effective internal controls to safeguard institutional assets, ensure accurate financial reporting, and mitigate risk.
10. Support budget development, financial forecasting, analysis, and monitoring in collaboration with the Vice President of Administrative Services.
11. Manage and optimize financial systems, accounting processes, and reporting structures to support operational efficiency and institutional decision-making.
12. Supervise, develop, and evaluate accounting personnel while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
13. Prepare and submit required financial reports, surveys, and data requests, including IPEDS and other state, federal, and accreditation reporting requirements.
14. Provide financial guidance and customer service to campus departments, employees, students, and external stakeholders.
15. Serve on institutional committees and represent the College in system, state, and professional meetings related to accounting and finance.
16. Support the College's mission, strategic priorities, and commitment to inclusion through responsible stewardship of institutional resources.
17. Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution in Accounting or Finance.
2. Three years or more of progressively responsible accounting experience areas such as financial management, oversight of general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, cash management, financial reporting, and internal controls.
3. Supervisory experience.
4. Experience preparing audited financial statements.
5. Experience with government or fund accounting.
6. Demonstrated knowledge of GAAP and GASB.
7. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
8. Experience preparing, analyzing, and interpreting financial reports, budgets, forecasts, and financial data to support strategic decision-making.
9. Experience with external audits, internal controls, risk management practices, and regulatory compliance requirements.
10. Working knowledge of integrated financial management systems, enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, and advanced spreadsheet and financial reporting applications.
11. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with executive leadership, auditors, government agencies, faculty, staff, students, and external stakeholders.
12. Strong analytical skills with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
13. Strong communication skills.
14. Demonstrated commitment to ethical financial practices, transparency, fiscal stewardship, and institutional accountability.
15. Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet critical deadlines, and work effectively in a dynamic and collaborative environment.
16. Ability to work occasional evenings, weekends, and irregular hours as required to meet reporting deadlines, audit schedules, special projects, and institutional needs.
17. Ability to travel as required for professional development, state meetings, training, and institutional business.

4. Banner ERP experience
5. Governmental accounting
6. Federal grant accounting
7. Experience with capital construction accounting.

• Travel reimbursement up to $300 for in person interview expenses.
