Job Description

The Career Success Operations Coordinator collaborates through a cross-divisional and cross-institutional approach to support experiential learning initiatives, student employment operations, and career readiness efforts that advance holistic student success. This position serves with a student-centered philosophy that contributes to an engaging, supportive, and career-focused campus environment by assisting students in developing professional competencies, navigating experiential learning opportunities, and achieving post-graduate success. Through collaboration, assessment, data-informed practices, and operational support, the Coordinator helps foster meaningful student engagement while supporting institutional goals related to career development and workforce readiness.

  • Familiarity with career management platforms (e.g., Handshake).

Responsibilities Include:

Experiential Learning & Student Employment

  • Serve as the center's point of contact for on-campus student employment including federal work-study, graduate assistantships, research roles, and other student jobs.
  • Manage the APSU Student Employment email account and respond to inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources, Financial Aid, and Graduate Studies to support student hiring processes and troubleshoot issues.
  • Educate students and departments on hiring procedures, policies, and use of the Handshake platform.
  • Plan, design, and facilitate/present regular orientation workshops for new student employees and supervisors, as well as career readiness training and resources for students and campus partners.
  • Assist in the creation and refinement of student employment policies and procedures.
  • Manage job postings and internal accounts for departments on Handshake, including overseeing assessments tied to student employment experiences.
  • Advise students regarding experiential learning opportunities, such as student employment and internships.
  • Assist in the supervision of student employees/interns within the Career Success Center.

Data Analysis, Reporting & Technology Platforms

  • Assist in the coordination and administration of the First Destination Survey (FDS), including outreach strategies, follow-up efforts, and knowledge rate improvement initiatives.
  • Support the assessment, tracking, analyzing, and reporting of student employment, career outcomes, and experiential learning, aligned with institutional goals.
  • Utilize Handshake and other online platforms to maintain accurate and current records, track student engagement, assist employers with accounts and registrations, and support the day-to-day operations of the center.
  • Partner with Institutional Research and campus stakeholders to ensure data accuracy, compliance with national reporting standards, and timely submission of reports.

Career Programming and Employer Engagement Support

  • Provide logistical coordination and operational support for career fairs, employer/on-campus recruitment events, and experiential learning initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the career success team, facilities, vendors, and stakeholders to support the planning, implementation, and management of event operations.
  • Assist with communications related to career initiatives and student employment efforts.

Department and Division

  • Maintain open communications with the Associate Director and Director of the Career Success Center to share information and engage in creative problem-solving to benefit the University community.
  • Represent the Career Success Center at university-wide events, committees, and initiatives, as needed.
  • Stay informed on career development best practices and student employment trends.
  • Participate in related professional organizations for continuing development.
  • Provide general support for marketing and outreach efforts.
  • Work occasional evenings and weekends for career-related events.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and related experience.
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills, including presentation experience.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and translate findings into actionable strategies.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and operating a personal computer.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Business, Communication, Human Resources, or a related field, and at least two (2) years of experience in career services, human resources, student employment, recruitment, or a related field in higher education or business (Any appropriate combination of relevant education, full-time or graduate assistantship experience, and/or certifications may be considered).
  • Knowledge of career and student development frameworks, experiential learning, and federal work-study policies.
  • Experience planning and executing events or programs in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience using career management platforms such as Handshake.

Physical Requirements:

Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
