Position title: Coordinator, Human Resources

This position is available within the University of Maryland’s Division of Information Technology (DIT).
The Business Support Services unit of the Division of IT is looking to hire a Human Resources Coordinator. This position will report directly to the Human Resources Manager.
Responsibilities will include supporting HR functions across the Division, which comprises approximately 300 staff, 250 student workers and 150 unpaid affiliates. The Coordinator will assist with hiring, on-boarding, off-boarding, and data management.
The HR Coordinator will lead all aspects of hiring, on/off-boarding and HR reporting including but not limited to:
- Entry of positions and postings in the hiring system
- Drafting, routing and filing contracts and offer letters
- Conducting new employee orientation sessions for staff (regular exempt, regular non-exempt, Contingent 2, Contingent 1, and Graduate Assistants)
- Tracking and managing processes and timelines related to hiring and on/off-boarding
- Coaching managers through the onboarding and offboarding process
- Providing guidance in navigating Workday to managers and employees
- Creating and updating HR manuals, policies, and procedures
- Ensuring compliance with labor laws, University and Divisional policies.
- Regularly generating and manipulating data for various HR reports
The ideal candidate will be highly motivated, an excellent communicator and have high levels of organization, as well the skill to multitask in a fast past large division. Strong attention to detail skills and analytically driven. Also the ability to prioritize and self-motivate in an extremely rapid productive environment. Must have a desire to be a team player and participate in continuous improvement and process innovation activities. Additionally, the ideal candidate proactively troubleshoots for solutions and anticipates possible foreseeable obstacles. Should possess a high level of professionalism and leadership capabilities. This is a primarily in-person position with limited telework.
This position is considered essential and may be required to work at the normal work location or an alternative location during a major catastrophic event, weather emergency, or other operational emergency to help maintain the continuity of University services.
May be required to work evenings, nights, weekends, or different shifts for extended periods.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
Experience: One (1) year of professional human resources experience. Additional work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to four (4) years of the required education.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of human resources policies and procedures, and federal, state, and other applicable human resources related laws, rules, regulations, and ordinances.
- Knowledge of best practices in organization, administration, and customer service.
- Knowledge of proper protocol in handling confidential information.
- Skill in the use of Microsoft Office and Google Suite products.
- Skill in analytical and strategic thinking.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize assignments.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to analyze situations and determine the best recourse for response.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while demonstrating a commitment to customer service.
Preferences:
- Demonstrated basic knowledge of HR regulations, policies, and procedures.
- 1+ years of Workday HCM experience
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive personnel information with discretion.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and/or Google Apps (Docs, Sheets and Slides)
- Proficient in Adobe Sign

Remote Work: This position may be eligible for some telework, but that will be dependent on projects and needs of the project/department. There will be a regular in-office requirement. Please note that all positions within the Division of Information Technology (DIT) have an in person component with expected time in our College Park, MD location per week. Telework is not a guaranteed work arrangement.
Physical Demands: Sedentary work. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Repetitive motion. Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.
