Job Description
PURPOSE AND SCOPE:
The Coordinator II, Dental Hygiene Program ensures the clinic runs smoothly and efficiently. In addition, maintains accurate records that are reported to the state. The Coordinator II supports the Director and Faculty to ensure the students get the best education in dental hygiene.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Coordinates daily operations of the dental hygiene clinic to ensure efficient workflow, patient care, and a productive learning environment by coordinating clinic scheduling, including student assignments, patient appointments, and chair utilization
- Monitors and maintains accurate inventory levels of clinic supplies, clinical/laboratory equipment and chemical inventory while coordinating the purchasing of supplies, equipment, and other program-related materials in alignment with budgetary guidelines
- Maintains, troubleshoots, and coordinates repair of clinic, radiology, and laboratory equipment with vendors as needed
- Prepares and maintains accurate clinic reports, including daily activity, compliance logs, and annual summaries; Manages secure handling of all confidential patient records, including electronic health records, physician medical releases and radiographs
- Coordinates quality assurance programs, including monitoring and documenting radiology and sterilization compliance in accordance with OSHA, state regulations, and accreditation requirements
- Supports student learning by assisting with patient recruitment, clinical readiness, and operational guidance in the clinic setting
- Plans and coordinates departmental meetings, advisory committee meetings, new cohort interviews, and pinning ceremony; Coordinates and facilitates student recruitment and community outreach activities such as tours, career fairs, and health events
- Assists with budget planning and administration, including tracking expenditures and controlling costs; Receives payments from patients, prepares deposits and submits to the business office
- Collaborates with faculty and program administration to evaluate and improve clinic policies, procedures, and student outcomes; Coordinates patient recare system to support patient retention and oral health outcomes
- Responsible for other reasonable, related duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Excellent communication skills in dealing with the public and students
- Ability to mentor students in the dental hygiene clinic and lab
- Experience with dental software packages
- Ability to attend training seminars to receive updated information
- Ability to work independently without close supervision and successful handling of day-to-day operations in the dental hygiene clinic
- Ability to determine own approach to complete work.
- Ability to organize work around broad organization and goals
- Ability to work in a dynamic environment that requires incumbent to be sensitive to change and responsive to changing goal, priorities, and needs
- Ability to perform professional-level work dealing with data, people, and technology
PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS:
- Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone, and other general office equipment
- Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
- Work is performed primarily in climate-controlled work area that is accessible to faculty and students, with exposure to dental equipment and chemicals
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associate degree or higher and at least 3 years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Experience working in a dental office
- Basic Life Support Certification for Health Care Workers
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree
- Current Licensed Registered Dental Assistant or Registered Dental Hygienist
Salary
Hiring salary range is $44,793 - $51,512
