The TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) Program at Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) supports eligible students as they navigate and succeed in higher education. The SSS Program Coordinator provides critical operational, communication, student engagement, and programming support to ensure the program operates effectively and participants remain actively engaged in TRIO SSS services.
Under the direction of the TRIO SSS Project Director, the Program Coordinator is responsible for coordinating program activities, supporting student outreach and communications, organizing events and workshops, assisting with peer leader operations, maintaining program documentation, and supporting the implementation of TRIO SSS services and activities.
The Program Coordinator works collaboratively with the TRIO SSS Advisors to support student engagement and program participation. While SSS Advisors provide individualized academic advising, case management, and student support, the Program Coordinator focuses on program operations, student engagement, communications, events, outreach, and coordination of program activities.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities & Knowledge Skills & Abilities- Support outreach and recruitment activities for prospective and current TRIO SSS students.
Assist with new student onboarding, program orientation, and participant engagement.Coordinate TRIO SSS events, workshops, cultural activities, campus visits, and student programming.Support communication with TRIO SSS participants through email, phone, Canvas, CampusGroups, and other communication platforms.Assist with coordinating TRIO-required services and student participation activities.Support peer leader recruitment, training, scheduling, and day-to-day operations.Assist with tutoring coordination and communication with TRIO SSS tutors and students.Maintain accurate program records, documentation, and student participation information in systems such as StudentAccess, Navigate360, CampusGroups, and other institutional systems.Assist with data collection, reporting, and documentation required for TRIO SSS program and grant compliance.Coordinate with campus departments and community partners to connect students with academic, financial, career, transfer, and basic-needs resources.Assist with planning and implementing transfer activities, four-year university visits, research opportunities, and career-development programs.Provide general program information and referrals to students regarding financial aid, scholarships, tutoring, academic resources, transfer opportunities, and other college services.Support the SSS Project Director and Advisors with program planning, student engagement initiatives, and administrative responsibilities.Maintain confidentiality when working with student records and sensitive information.Promote an inclusive, welcoming, and supportive environment for first-generation, low-income, and students with disabilities who participate in the TRIO SSS program.Perform other duties and responsibilities related to the successful operation of the TRIO SSS program as assigned.Minimum qualificationsMinimum Qualifications
- Associate or higher
- Two (2) years of professional experience in education, student services, event coordination, communications, or a related field

- Associate or Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in education, student affairs, counseling, social work, human services, business administration, or a related field.
- Experience working in a higher education environment, particularly in student support, advising, retention, access, or student services.
- Previous experience working with TRIO programs, including Student Support Services (SSS), Upward Bound, Educational Talent Search, McNair, or similar college-access programs.
- Experience supporting first-generation, low-income, and students with disabilities in achieving their academic and career goals.
- Experience coordinating student programs, workshops, campus events, orientations, and educational activities.
- Experience with student outreach, recruitment, onboarding, and engagement.
- Knowledge of academic advising, degree planning, transfer processes, financial aid, scholarships, tutoring, and college student-support resources.
- Experience maintaining student records and program documentation while protecting confidential and sensitive student information.
- Experience using higher education technology and student information systems such as StudentAccess, Navigate360, Canvas, CampusGroups, Banner, DegreeWorks, or similar systems.
- Experience with data collection, reporting, program assessment, and grant compliance.
- Experience supervising, training, or coordinating peer leaders, tutors, student employees, or volunteers.
- Strong written, verbal, interpersonal, and organizational communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with students, faculty, staff, administrators, community organizations, and campus partners from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work independently as well as collaboratively.
- Demonstrated commitment to student access, retention, persistence, transfer, graduation, and equity in higher education.
- Experience developing presentations, workshops, outreach materials, newsletters, social media content, or other student-facing communications.
- Bilingual or multilingual skills are preferred, particularly languages commonly spoken by SLCC's student population.
