Position Description
This position assists in the overall operation of the Unit Medication Room and distributes clients medications from filled prescriptions.

Major/Essential Functions
- Administers medications and documents as ordered. Adheres to facility policy and procedure of medication administration.
- Performs support activities. Ensures drug room security, replaces facility medication, stocks and maintains the upkeep of the drug room and pharmaceutical equipment. Returns outdated medication to the pharmacy and keeps log books updated. Generates print passes.
- Reports unusual occurrences (reactions, behaviors, refusals) to Registered Nurse.
Applicants will be considered for either a Correctional Medication Aide or Correctional Medication Aide Trainee level position based on education, experience, and skills.

Required Qualifications
Correctional Medication Aide: Graduation from an accredited high school or GED equivalent and Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic (EMT-P) with current credential from the Texas Department of State Health Services Or Successful completion of a certified medication aide training course and passage of State exam.
Correctional Medication Aide Trainee: HS diploma or GED. As a condition of employment, must successfully complete the Correctional Medication Aide training program, and subsequently pass the certification examination.
