As a Correctional Physician, you will provide comprehensive medical care, diagnose and treat a wide range of acute and chronic conditions, and exercise independent clinical judgment in a dynamic and rewarding environment. Working under the general direction of the Unit Medical Director, you will have broad latitude to make clinical decisions and manage patient care. In addition to providing direct medical services, you will supervise and mentor 2–4 Advanced Practice Providers (Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners), helping to ensure the delivery of high-quality healthcare across the unit. Major/Essential Functions
Provides Comprehensive Patient Care:
- Evaluates, diagnoses, and treats acute and chronic medical conditions through patient assessments, diagnostic testing, and evidence-based treatment planning.
- Performs minor medical procedures within scope of practice and coordinates specialty referrals when clinically appropriate.
Delivers Emergency & Inpatient Care:
- Provides immediate medical care for emergencies involving patients, employees, and visitors.
- Oversees infirmary patient care, ensuring appropriate admissions, treatment, and bed management.
Leads & Supports Clinical Teams:
- Supervises and coordinates the work of advanced practice providers and other assigned clinical staff.
- Utilizes effective leadership and communication skills to support quality patient care and team performance.
Ensures Safety, Quality & Compliance:
- Maintains a safe, secure, and therapeutic environment while adhering to TTUHSC, TDCJ, and applicable standards of care.
- Follows institutional, departmental, and regulatory policies to promote quality outcomes and patient safety.
Supports Continuity of Care:
- Participates in regional after-hours call coverage to ensure timely access to medical services.
- Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams and specialists to support continuity and coordination of care.
