BASIC FUNCTION:
The successful candidate will be responsible for lecture and/or laboratory instruction in cosmetology. The assignment may also include other courses in the discipline and evening assignments.
EDUCATION:
Associate's degree or the equivalent is required. Master's degree preferred. Evidence of a past Cosmetology Instructor license; or completion of a Cosmetology Instructor training course(s) at a California Community College; or a California Designated Subjects Adult Education Teaching Credential; or a California Vocational Education Teaching Credential is required. Current education and knowledge in the industry is preferred.
(All degrees and units used to satisfy minimum qualifications shall be from accredited institutions).
KNOWLEDGE OF:
Current principles and practices of the cosmetology profession, including perm waving, hair-cutting, manicuring, pedicuring, bleaching, hair coloring, hair styling, pressing and curling, chemical relaxing, braiding, scalp treatments, facials, all ethnic hair procedures and related theory.
EXPERIENCE:
A minimum of six (6) years of full-time industry experience is required. At least three years part-time teaching in a community college environment is required. One year of full-time teaching at a community college is preferred. Supervisory experience is preferred.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
Valid California Cosmetologist License is required.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- The instructional assignment will include lecture and laboratory classes in the discipline.
- Assignments are based upon the assumption of workload of forty hours weekly, including but not limited to conducting classes, class preparation, student evaluation, office hours, committee work, curriculum and program development, student learning outcomes assessment, program review, student activities, and other duties per the bargaining unit agreement.
- Institutional service activities are expected of all faculty members.
- Participation in discipline/department decision making processes and work regarding curriculum, program development, scheduling and other matters are also expected of all faculty.
- Responsibilities also include maintaining standards of professional conduct and ethics appropriate to the professional position.
- Teaching assignment is primarily face-to-face in the evenings but may be subject to change. Possible hours may include early morning, day, evening, online, hybrid, weekend, and/or off campus classes.
- Fulfill the duties of a full-time instructor, including, but not limited to, holding weekly office hours and completing 24 hours of "flex credit" through various available activities and seminars.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Ten-month, tenure-track position.
- Salary is commensurate with academic preparation, and full-time teaching or equivalent experience with a range from Column C, Step 1 to Column H, Step 6 of the current Faculty Salary Schedule.
- Medical and dental benefits are provided for the employee and legal dependents.
- A $50,000 life insurance policy is provided for the employee.
- Orientation to college is required as is adherence to Improvement of Instruction policy.
- Maintain broad knowledge of academic or occupational area and design pedagogy related to learning outcomes.
- Responsible for all other conditions of employment required of full-time faculty members such as a willingness to be involved in District promotional activities, active participation in college committee work, student activities and other support services, and appropriate professional activities.
