Counseling and Psychological Services Therapist
Position Summary/Description
The Counseling and Psychological Services Therapist is a professional, licensed or license-eligible to practice psychology or social work in the State of North Carolina, and is expected to carry out this practice in an ethical and informed manner within the administrative framework of Campus Health Services. The licensed psychologist or social worker provides individual and group therapy, assessment, supervision and training of practicum students and interns, outreach programming, and crisis intervention, including daytime and evening weekend on-call services. Consultation with members of the University community and participation in campus committees related to counseling are also encouraged and expected. The therapist plays a crucial role in health education, particularly through one-on-one interactions with student clientele.
Education and Experience
Experience working with traditional college aged students (age 18-25).
Previous experience in the University setting and the processes of maturation which occur during college years, undergraduate and graduate.
Essential Skills
Relevant professional degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and licensure in the appropriate clinical field of psychology, social work, or mental health practice.
Board eligibility for licensure by the North Carolina Board of Psychology or Social Work. Board certification is expected. Psychologists who have just completed their internship will be given sufficient time to transition from board-eligible to board-certified.
The CAPS Therapist must: Have a current in-depth knowledge of their field and its standards of practice. Have a commitment to the practice of quality mental health services. Have the ability to work with other professional staff and support staff to produce integrated professional services.
