Job Summary
Provide counseling services for university students, faculty, and staff.
Based on the recent Proclamation: Restriction on Entry of Certain Nonimmigrant Workers (H-1B), VSU will not be sponsoring any new H-1B visa petitions until further notice.
Responsibilities
Typical Allocation of Duties:
Individual and group counseling - 35%
Provide individual and group counseling services to students, faculty, and staff.
Documentation - 25%
Complete accurate documentation and maintain case files.
Crisis intervention - 15%
Provide crisis intervention services as needed both during and after hours.
Outreach and training - 10%
Provide outreach programs for classes, residence halls, campus organizations and special interest groups. Provide in-service programming and training for staff and faculty.
Consultation and referral - 10%
Provides consultation and referral services for both on and off-campus resources.
Provide support for other campus functions - 5%
Provides support services for other campus functions, including testing, admissions, and orientation.
Supervisor Expectations:
- Maintain accurate, thorough, and timely clinical documentation, including assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, and other required records, in compliance with HIPAA, FERPA, ethical guidelines, and university policies.
- Maintain appropriate professional boundaries and protect client confidentiality at all times.
- Promote student resilience, personal growth, and academic success by connecting students with appropriate campus and community resources when additional support is needed.
- Participate actively in case consultation, staff meetings, supervision, interdisciplinary collaboration, and departmental initiatives.
- Assist with outreach programming, workshops, prevention initiatives, and campus events that increase awareness of mental health services and promote student wellness.
- Represent Counseling & Health Services professionally in all interactions and serve as a positive ambassador for the department as well as the Division of Enrollment & Student Affairs across campus & the Community.
- Demonstrate professionalism through reliability, accountability, integrity, flexibility, and respectful communication with students, colleagues, and campus partners.
- Complete administrative responsibilities, reports, and assigned projects accurately and within established deadlines.
- Participate in ongoing professional development, maintain required licensure and certifications, and remain current on emerging best practices and evidence-based interventions.
- Contribute ideas that improve clinical services, operational efficiency, student engagement, and departmental effectiveness while embracing a culture of continuous improvement.
- Support colleagues during periods of high demand and contribute to a collaborative, respectful, and solution-focused team environment.
Required Qualifications
Required Experience
Master's degree in specified field or related, and one (1) year of related work experience. Licensed or license-eligible in the State of Georgia as Professional Counselor, Marriage and Family Therapist, Social Worker or Psychologist required.
