Position Summary:
The Counselor Education Unit at Central Michigan University is excited to invite applications for a 9-month, full-time, remote fixed term faculty position in Counseling, beginning August 2026. As our CACREP-accredited online program continues to expand, we’re looking for a passionate Counselor Educator who wants to help prepare the next generation of mental health professionals for schools and communities nationwide.
CMU’s Counseling Program offers 60-credit degrees in Addiction, Clinical Mental Health, and School Counseling, delivered through flexible online formats, including 8- or 16-week courses taught live in the evenings (EST; Mondays-Thursdays) and 8-week asynchronous options. Candidates would be required to teach four courses per semester (fall and spring). Supplemental summer teaching opportunities may also be available. Candidates should bring a strong professional counseling identity, demonstrated through clinical and/or school experience and active licensure/credentialing.
This position is open to remote work from within the United States; however, priority consideration will be given to candidates located in Michigan.
Required Qualifications:
- An earned doctorate in Counselor Education from a CACREP-accredited institution; ABD considered with proof from the Dissertation Chair of defense and graduation by August 2026.
- Post-graduate professional clinical and/or school counseling experience.
- Professional clinical and/or school counseling license and/or certification; or license-eligible in Michigan.
- Understanding and demonstrated knowledge and implementation of the multicultural and social justice competencies in counseling.
- Professional counseling identity, including membership in ACA, ASCA or other professional counseling associations.
- Ability or experience in teaching in both synchronous and asynchronous formats.
- Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.

About the Department:
The Department of Counseling, Educational Leadership, and Higher Education is housed within the College of Education & Human Services. At present, the Counseling Program has approximately 450 students total between main campus and the cohort online program, ten (10) full-time faculty members, three (3) full-time and one (1) part-time staff members.
