Counselor
Job Summary
Reporting to the Director of Student Development Services, the Counselor is responsible for providing counseling and individual and group educational and vocational guidance services.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Assists individuals to understand and overcome social, emotional, and developmental issues
- Coordinates with campus police, faculty, administrators, and staff to provide crisis intervention, counseling, and referral
- Develops and presents relevant wellness and/or student success seminars on campus
- Refers students to relevant community resources as needed
- Engages in research and follow-up activities to evaluate counseling techniques
- Assists with the academic advising process
- Visits area high schools to conduct seminars and presentations, or disperse college information as necessary
- Communicates, collaborates, and provides consultation with faculty to increase student success
- Collects, organizes, and analyzes information about individuals through records, tests, interviews, and professional sources to appraise their interests, aptitudes, abilities, and personality characteristics, for vocational and educational planning
- Compiles and studies occupational, educational, and economic information to aid counselees in making and carrying out vocational and educational objectives
Service Excellence
- Attends the workplace regularly, reports to work punctually, and follows a work schedule to keep up with the demands of the worksite
- Completes all required training and professional development sessions sponsored through Tarrant County College (TCC)
- Supports the mission, values, goals, and principles of the College
Supervision
Works under the general supervision of the Director of Student Development Services

Required Minimum Qualifications
- Master's degree in Counseling, Psychology, or Social Work, or related field
- Three (3) years' working experience providing counseling
- Currently a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), a Licensed Clinical Psychologist (LCP), a National Certified Counselor (NCC), or a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
- Must hold an unrestricted mental health license in Texas
Preferred Qualifications
- At least one (1) year's working experience providing counseling in a higher education setting
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Skilled in excellent customer service and interpersonal relationships, including strong listening, verbal, and written communication
- Skilled using computer applications and enterprise systems, including the Microsoft Office suite
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment
- Ability to think critically to effectively solve and communicate problems in a fast-paced environment where the demands for work are varied, and unpredictable in scope and volume
- Ability to analyze data and provide sound recommendations based on policy, procedure, practice, and existing regulations
- Ability to delegate work appropriately to faculty and staff to meet College and campus deliverables

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and climb or balance. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
