"Course instructor for Research Methologies in Network and Information Technologies"

The UOC is looking to hire affiliated teaching staff for the academic year 2026/2027.

Affiliated teaching staff need to have experience and currently be employed in their field. The Universitat Oberta de Catalunya needs professionals whose main professional activity is linked to the position they are applying for, enabling them to provide a quality service. Therefore, applicants must have a main professional activity that they will maintain alongside their work as affiliated teaching staff.

We are seeking a Course instructor for Research Methologies in Network and Information Technologies.

The selected candidate will guide students in acquiring research competences within the fields of ICT and Information Systems (IS), managing a syllabus structured around the following thematic axes:

• Introduction to the research process: purpose and products of research, research ethics, and reviewing the literature.
• Research methods: surveys, design and creation, experiments, case studies, action research, ethnography, and formal proofs as a research strategy.
• Data generation techniques: interviews, observations, questionnaires, and documents.
• Data analysis: both quantitative and qualitative data analysis methodologies.

An excellent command of English is essential, as it is the mandatory vehicular language for all teaching activities, forum interactions, and the assessment of continuous learning assignments. Key responsibilities include personalized follow-up of the continuous assessment (CAA) and the dynamization of the virtual classroom.

Requirements

• Academic Background: PhD in Computer Science, Telecommunications Engineering, or related fields.
• English Proficiency: Excellent linguistic competence (C1 level or equivalent). English is the required language for teaching, forum moderation, and grading all activities.
• Research Experience: Deep understanding of the scientific research process, from literature review to ethics and research outputs.
• Having a separate main line of work is an indispensable requirement for the selection process.

• Specific Methodologies: Previous experience in design and creation methods, experiments, case studies, action research, or ethnography.
• Formal Methods: Knowledge or experience in formal proof strategies as a research method in computing.
• Data Analysis: Proficiency in both quantitative and qualitative data analysis.
• Virtual Teaching: Previous experience using virtual learning environments, moderating discussion forums, and formative continuous assessment.
• Communication Skills: Ability to provide personalized, constructive, and motivating feedback to students in a digital environment.
