Criminal Justice Instructor

SUNY Schenectady invites applications for a full-time Criminal Justice Instructor to join a collaborative, student-centered academic community within the Division of Liberal Arts. We seek an educator who is committed to excellent teaching and dedicated to preparing students for careers and continued education in criminal justice, law enforcement, corrections, courts, and related fields. The successful candidate will teach a 15-credit course load per semester and contribute to a department that values high-quality instruction, professional growth, and strong connections between theory and practice.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teach undergraduate Criminal Justice courses in a variety of instructional formats, including in-person and online
  • Develop and deliver course content that integrates criminal justice theory, policy, and applied practice
  • Create engaging, inclusive, and supportive learning environments that promote student success and retention
  • Assess student learning and participate in program and course-level assessment activities
  • Hold regular office hours and provide academic advising and mentoring to students
  • Participate in departmental, divisional, and college service, including committee work
  • Engage in ongoing professional development related to teaching, criminal justice, and higher education
  • Contribute to a collegial and supportive academic community

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Criminal Justice or a closely related field (e.g., Criminology, Legal Studies, Public Administration) from an accredited institution
  • Prior teaching, training, or instructional experience
  • Professional experience in criminal justice or a closely related field
  • Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Teaching experience at the community college level
  • Experience in law enforcement, corrections, courts, probation/parole, or related justice system roles
  • Experience with or commitment to inclusive, equity-minded teaching practices
  • Experience with online or technology-enhanced instruction
  • Relevant professional certifications or licensures
  • Doctoral degree in Criminal Justice or Juris Doctorate.

Special Information:

  • Employment commences on August 17, 2026
  • VISA sponsorship is not available for this position
  • Offers of employment will be conditional based on the successful completion of a background check and verification of official college transcripts

Additional Information:

Salary: $51,727
