Carnegie Mellon University invites applications for a Crisis, Consultation, and Referral Support (CCaRS) Program Director at Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), within the Community Health and Well-Being unit of the Division of Student Affairs. The CCaRS Program Director is a full-time position reporting directly to the Associate Director of Clinical Services. This role will oversee triage, case management, referral support, mobile crisis, and consultation services at CAPS. The Program Director will lead a team of mental health professionals in a department with increased focus on building a fair and respectful community that fosters connection and support in a multicultural environment.

This role provides administrative and clinical oversight of CCaRS staff, and ensures the optimal functioning of CCaRS services. Additionally, the person in this position provides direct counseling/psychotherapy, consultation, crisis intervention, and outreach/prevention services to CMU students, as needed. The Program Director is a member of the CaPS leadership team and works in conjunction with other leadership colleagues in developing and implementing center-wide policy consistent with institutional needs and ethical professional practice.

Your core responsibilities will include:

  • In collaboration with Associate Director of Clinical Services, evaluate and maintain strategy for CCaRS services & schedules in accordance with national best practices and divisional and institutional mission and goals.
  • Provide administrative supervision of individuals in the CCaRS team, a team of five clinicians
  • Provide administrative supervision and program development for CaPS mobile crisis team
  • Provide guidance, training, evaluation, and leadership to direct and indirect reports providing CCaRS services.
  • Assess needs for and develops program recommendations and requests to improve CCaRS services.
  • Represent CaPS in DOSA CARE team meetings with campus partners
  • Help recruit and participate in searches for skilled and professional staff for the CCaRS team.
  • Participate in the CaPS Clinical Services Committee, a standing working committee used to monitor, assess and address ongoing needs related to clinical services, as well as coordinate clinical efforts at CaPS.
  • Provide direct counseling/psychotherapy and consultation, crisis intervention, and outreach/prevention services as needed to CMU students.
  • Assist CaPS leadership in administrative functions within CaPS.
  • Serves as consultant for parents, faculty and families on issues related to CCaRS services at CaPS.
  • Assists in accreditation (APA, IACS) efforts as needed.
  • Other job-related duties as assigned.

You should demonstrate:

  • Knowledge of federal, state and local laws, statues, regulations, codes, and standards related to the delivery of mental health services.
  • Knowledge of mental health and wellness issues in the college student population, including undergraduate, graduate and international students.
  • Ability to think critically and creatively about clinical problems, have a high standard of integrity, and be motivated to incorporate best practices into CaPS.
  • Ability to inspire others, remain calm under stress, and demonstrate flexibility/adaptiveness in the face of complex problems and unforeseen challenges.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree required; Doctoral Degree in a mental health field preferred
  • 3-5 years post-degree experience providing clinical services in a clinical mental health setting required
  • Must be licensed or license-eligible as a mental health professional within the state of Pennsylvania. Must obtain Pennsylvania licensure within one year of hire.
  • Experience with policy and procedure design and evaluation.
  • Significant experience with crisis intervention, risk assessment, and management of high-risk clients.
  • Demonstrated experience in the provision of administrative and clinical supervision.
  • A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.

Additional Information:

The typical work schedule is Monday-Friday from 8:30-5:00pm. An alternate work schedule allowing for evening and weekend hours may be required on occasion. This role participates in an on-call rotation as part of the leadership team.
