About the Job
TALK (College of Science and Engineering Teaching and Language Kick-Off) program. The program runs from August 4-15, 2025; the appointment begins on July 28, 2025. Instructors can expect to work approximately 50-60 hours during the three weeks of the program.
JOB DUTIES:
Week of July 28: Attend instructor meetings; the week of (times tbd based on schedules); also meet with instructional team, including undergraduate TAs who will assist in classes, class prep.
Attend program welcome on the morning of August 4.
Teach either:
Oral skills and communication:
90 minute English pronunciation/oral skills class in the morning (9:30-11:00). (August 5-7 and August 11-13)
Conduct small group language practice in the afternoon. Each small group meets for 30 minutes. The first group meets at 2:00; all groups finish no later than 4:30. (August 5-7 and August 11-13)
Departmental Workshop
60 minute departmental-based teaching workshop. focusing on the specific skills needed to be an effective TA in the departmental context. (1:00-2:00)
Conduct practice teaching sessions for small groups of TAs. (2:00-5:00)
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in TESOL or related field.
Previous experience teaching oral skills, with a focus on pronunciation and pragmatics.
One year of demonstrated professional and/or teaching experience in the areas of oral communication and/or pedagogy in higher education
Attention to cultural diversity in teaching and/or professional practice
Knowledge of Canvas
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience teaching international graduate students
Previous experience training Teaching Assistants at the university level
Experience teaching in higher education and/or adult learners (ABE for example).

Pay Range: $33.00 - $38.00 ; depending on education/qualifications/experience
