"Culinary Associate (PT Pooled)"

Swarthmore College is a highly selective liberal arts college located in the suburbs of Philadelphia. As a member of the Dining Services department, the Culinary Associate will work in stations such as Cook, Pizza Cook, Commissary, or Baker. This role involves ensuring timely meal production under the direction of the Executive Chef or Executive Sous Chef, prepping ingredients, and cooking or baking menu items according to standard recipes. Responsibilities include maintaining departmental standards for quality, taste, creativity, presentation, and variety; assisting with menu execution; ensuring food safety; and proper sanitation of kitchen equipment.

This is a part-time position, working 15 hours per week. Essential responsibilities include: consulting daily menus and production sheets; reading and following recipes; maintaining standards for menu items; placing finished products on the line timely; ensuring safe, high-quality food; storing food products properly; cleaning and sanitizing equipment and areas; promoting teamwork; observing kitchen safety and sanitation; using FIFO for rotation; utilizing cleaning chemicals per MSDS; completing side work; providing customer service; recording food temperature logs; following HACCP requirements; preparing foods at correct temperatures; making menu suggestions; communicating with front-of-house staff; and preparing components for various food services.

Required qualifications: 2 years of cook experience in a high-volume food establishment or completion of a culinary vocational training program; excellent culinary knife skills; recipe scaling; good interpersonal skills; excellent customer service; ability to read and follow recipes; and clear communication.

Preferred qualifications: Culinary program certificate; 3-5 years of experience; Serv-safe certification; Food Allergen knowledge/certification; and a valid PA driver's license.

The pay for this position is $22.12 per hour. Swarthmore College requires a PA Criminal background check for all staff positions.
