Cultural Resources Management Specialist
This position is located at Fort Knox, Kentucky. The primary objective is to provide scientific and technical skills for the implementation of the Fort Knox cultural resources program. This involves completing field and administrative tasks, collecting and managing environmental data, interacting with the public and military personnel, and documenting resources and preparing reports for the Kentucky Heritage Council in compliance with State Level Documentation of Historic Properties standards.
Job Duties:
We are seeking an architectural historian to provide technical support for the installation’s cultural resources program. This includes conducting research on historic buildings and sites through inventories, site evaluations, and monitoring of historic sites and structures at Fort Knox. The team member must meet the Secretary of Interior’s Standards and Guidelines for Archaeology and Historic Preservation, Professional Qualifications Standards, and the Kentucky Heritage Council’s professional standards for architectural history.
Required Qualifications:
- A graduate degree in architectural history, art history, historic preservation, or a closely related field with coursework in American architectural history, or a bachelor’s degree in the same fields plus one of the following: a minimum of 2 years of full-time professional experience applying theories, methods, and practices of architectural history; or products and activities demonstrating successful application of proficiencies in the discipline.
- Knowledge of historic structures/sites in a military environment and experience preparing historic resource survey reports, consultation letters, or National Register of Historic Places nominations.
- Capable of conducting cultural resources management field investigations.
- Valid driver’s license from any U.S. State or Territory and U.S. Citizenship.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, and databases for environmental analysis.
- Experience using GIS software such as ArcGIS and Trimble Pathfinder Office.
- Ability to gather facts, analyze trends, draw conclusions, devise solutions, and identify changes related to comprehensive planning issues.
- Ability to communicate effectively in formal briefings, public meetings, and prepare clear written materials for different audiences.
- Must work independently and as part of a team interacting with Department of Defense personnel, State Historic Preservation Offices, the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation, and consulting American Indian tribes. Reports to the Director of Texas State’s Center for Archaeological Studies.
Additional Information:
Candidate must pass a background check for access to Army installations, IT systems, and issuance of a government-issued Common Access Card.
