Custodial Services Training Manager
This position supports the implementation of industry standards and procedures for UI Custodial Services and plays a vital role in maintaining clean, safe and well-maintained University facilities. The incumbent will demonstrate responsiveness, adaptability and professionalism while onboarding new staff, conducting regular building inspections, assisting with equipment repair, responding to emergencies, managing projects and performing seasonal tasks such as snow removal.
This is an essential position that will be called upon in the event of an emergency and/or university closure.
Duties may include:
- Training new staff
- Inspect buildings to determine cleaning and training deficiencies
- Supervise day customer response and weekend team
- Provide general support to custodial teams through equipment repair, weekend cleaning and recycling
- Maintain communication with building occupants and coworkers, addressing any concerns or special requests promptly
- Other duties as assigned
Required Experience:
- Three years performing custodial duties, including working with industrial cleaning chemicals and heavy-duty cleaning equipment
- Two years performing supervisory and/or training duties
- Using computer software and applications for word processing, email, spreadsheets and internet searches
Required Education: High School Diploma or equivalent
Required Other:
- Possess a valid driver’s license and be able to meet policy requirements for driving university-owned vehicles
- Ability to respond to emergency calls within 60 minutes and serve on weekend call-out duty on a regular rotation
- Ability to work nonstandard business hours which may include evenings, weekends and holidays
- ISSA Supervisory Certification or completion of certification within six months of hire
Additional Preferred:
- Experience in the hospitality service industry, or Health Care
- Experience training custodial and/or maintenance staff
- Experience with managing a large custodial staff or related operations and services
- Developing operating policies and procedures
- Experience with current custodial techniques, standards and management practices
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions: Must be able to: bend, stoop and work in awkward positions for several hours at a time; climb and work from ladders, scaffolding and scissor lift; carry, lift or otherwise move items weighing up to 50 pounds; work in confined spaces using equipment and appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE); work in inclement weather conditions; work on uneven and slick surfaces.
Degree Requirement: Listed degree qualification is required at time of application. FLSA Status: Non-Exempt. Employee Category: Classified. Pay Range: Commensurate with experience. Full Time/Part Time: Full Time. Funding: This position is contingent upon the continuation of work and/or funding.
