Custodian & Grounds Maintenance keeper
Position Summary
The Gonzales Center is recruiting for a part-time Custodian & Grounds Maintenance keeper. This position is responsible for maintaining the Gonzales Center facilities and grounds in a clean, safe, and attractive condition at all times. This position includes custodial services, general building maintenance, and outdoor groundskeeping duties. This position may require varying schedules, including day and evening hours. This position requires passing a post-offer physical and drug screen.
Duties & Responsibilities
Custodial Duties
- Perform routine cleaning using proper equipment, tools, and materials.
- Sweep, scrub, mop, floors.
- Clean restrooms, including walls, floors, fixtures, and replenish supplies.
- Clean ceilings, walls, furniture, boards, and interior/exterior glass.
- Empty trash s, replace liners, and sanitize s.
- Perform general building maintenance as needed.
Grounds Maintenance Duties
- Maintain campus grounds in a clean and attractive condition.
- Pick up trash and debris across campus grounds, parking lots, and roadways.
- Perform lawn care, including mowing, edging, trimming, and blowing.
- Operate equipment such as mowers, weed eaters, and leaf blowers.
- Assist with planting and maintaining trees, shrubs, and landscaping.
- Use tools such as chainsaws, pruning saws, and other hand tools.
- Assist with installation and maintenance of irrigation systems.
General Responsibilities
- Follow written and oral instructions and safety procedures.
- Assist with special events and campus activities as required.
- Provide support to instructors, students, visitors, and staff.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Minimum of two (2) years experience in custodial work and/or groundskeeping.
- Knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment.
- Knowledge of lawn care and maintenance of trees, shrubs, and plants.
- Ability to safely operate custodial and grounds maintenance equipment.
- Ability to use hand tools and perform basic building maintenance tasks.
- Ability to follow instructions and work independently or as part of a team.
- Basic computer skills (time entry and employee systems).
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to maintain effective working relationships.
- Must possess a valid Texas Drivers License.
Physical Demands
- Ability to lift, push, or carry up to 50 pounds frequently and up to 75 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, and reach for extended periods.
- Ability to climb ladders and perform overhead work.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to operate machinery and equipment safely.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Combination of indoor and outdoor work environments.
- Exposure to cleaning chemicals, dust, fumes, and outdoor elements.
- Required use of personal protective equipment as needed.
