Job Duties
Task Organization, Scheduling, and Inspections
- Provides lead-worker direction to a team of three or more Custodian I employees, student workers, and temporary staff to ensure completion of assigned custodial services and projects.
- Communicates work priorities, operational needs, and service expectations among team members, supervisors, and building occupants.
- Organizes, schedules, monitors, and inspects the work of assigned personnel to ensure quality standards, productivity expectations, and departmental objectives are achieved.
- Adjusts daily work assignments and staffing plans to address employee absences, workload fluctuations, and changing operational priorities.
- Provides input and supporting documentation to supervisory staff regarding leave management, attendance concerns, and other personnel-related matters.
- Identifies opportunities to improve operational efficiency, enhance service delivery, and reduce costs, and provides recommendations to supervisory staff.
- Monitors custodial inventory levels and coordinates with supervisory staff to ensure assigned buildings and work areas remain adequately supplied.
- Assists the Custodian III in ensuring assigned employees complete required safety training, departmental training, and other mandatory compliance requirements within established time-frames.
- Serves as a resource for assigned staff by providing guidance, training, and assistance in the performance of custodial duties and departmental procedures.
Fulfill Cleaning Standards
- Performs custodial services in accordance with the Colorado State University Custodial 7-Step Cleaning Program in assigned areas.
- Cleans and maintains assigned facilities, including classrooms, hallways, cafeterias, gymnasiums, media centers, locker rooms, auditoriums, lobbies, lounges, corridors, elevators, stairwells, restrooms, shower facilities, and other campus spaces.
- Vacuums carpets; sweeps and mops floors; cleans furniture, drinking fountains, windows, glass surfaces, whiteboards, and chalkboards; empties trash receptacles and pencil sharpeners; and replenishes restroom and custodial supplies.
- Sanitizes restrooms and shower facilities using approved cleaning methods and products to maintain a safe and healthy environment.
- Utilizes Universal Precautions and established sanitation procedures when handling and cleaning bodily fluids and other potentially hazardous materials.
- Completes required safety training, compliance training, and other University-assigned professional development activities in a timely manner.
Deep Cleaning Projects
- Performs specialized custodial deep-cleaning services, including carpet extraction, upholstery shampooing, floor stripping and refinishing, scrubbing non-wax flooring, wall washing, air vent detail cleaning, exterior window cleaning, and light fixture cleaning.
- Plans, schedules, and coordinates periodic deep-cleaning projects to ensure facilities are maintained in accordance with departmental standards and operational needs.
- Collaborates with Custodian I staff to establish appropriate cleaning schedules that minimize disruption to building occupants, academic activities, and other campus operations.
- Monitors completion of deep-cleaning assignments and adjusts project priorities as necessary to address facility conditions and departmental objectives.
Facility Support and Operational Services
- Assists Physical Plant and Custodial staff with operational, maintenance, custodial, and event-support activities as needed to ensure continuity of campus services.
- Coordinates and adjusts custodial team assignments, schedules, and daily work priorities to accommodate operational needs, staffing changes, special projects, and requests from supervisory staff.
- Performs exterior building cleaning and maintenance activities, including collection and disposal of debris and emptying exterior trash receptacles located within 25 feet of assigned buildings.
- Removes snow and ice from assigned building entrances, sidewalks, and pedestrian pathways within 25 feet of building exteriors to maintain safe access for campus stakeholders.
- Applies ice melt and other approved slip-prevention materials as needed to ensure safe walking surfaces during inclement weather conditions.
- Places and maintains appropriate safety signage and slip-protection measures in areas affected by wet floors, weather conditions, or other hazards.
- Monitors and directs assigned staff to ensure exterior maintenance, snow and ice removal, and safety-related responsibilities are completed in accordance with departmental standards and timelines.
- Provides support for university functions, special events, and emergency response activities, including working overtime when necessary to meet operational requirements.
- Performs additional duties and special assignments as directed by the immediate supervisor to support departmental and university objectives.

Minimum Qualifications
One (1) year of relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned to this position.

Salary
$1,776 to 2,465/mo ($21,312 to $29,580/annually). This is a part-time (.50 FTE) position.
