Cutting edge machine learning models for UAV and non-terrestrial open radio access networks (Open RAN)
Recent advances in manufacturing Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) extended their durability and flight time. The researchers investigated the usage of UAVs in as Users, relays and small cell base stations. Problems like positioning and coverage have been studied. With more ambitions KPIs 6G needs to address more challenging applications and scenarios which include more challenging missions with lower available information for UAVs as UEs or base stations. Also Open RAN presented itself as a promising architecture to embed AI in networks. In this project we will investigate the integration and application of modern AI/ML in Non-terrestrial open RAN with the aim of delivering sustainable coverage and capacity to aerial and ground users.
The position will be primarily based at UoY.
