Distributed antenna systems for RF beamforming
About the Project
Spatial distribution of antenna elements is utilised in the construction of phased array antenna, which is a mature technology. However, in these systems the antenna are connected by conducting media. The formation of phased array antenna by distribution of antenna elements that are not connected by conducting media is challenging due to control, synchronisation, and syntonisation requirements. The proposed research project is to consider techniques that can meet these requirements and the prediction of beamforming performance for distributed antenna systems. Applications of such distributed antenna will also be considered in the research project. The work can be carried out using MATLAB to model the behaviour and performance of distributed antenna systems and investigate technologies that may be used to implement an actual distributed antenna system.
