Job Description

The Penn Program on Opinion Research and Election Studies (PORES) is an undergraduate research program committed to high-quality social research in the public interest on issues of national and international importance with a focus on data analytics.

The Research Coordinator will provide teaching assistant support to data science courses offered through PORES, including developing problem sets, grading, leading recitations, and offering office hours. The role involves mentoring students and supporting research projects through data collection and analysis, experiment design, and presentation preparation.

Duties/Job Responsibilities:

• Work directly with instructors for syllabus development, problem sets, and grading.
• Lead recitations and office hours for data science classes; mentor students individually and in groups.
• Collect and analyze data for original research, working with faculty, staff, and students; design survey instruments and experiments as needed; analyze datasets in R and write about results.
• Summarize research findings for non-technical audiences and prepare materials for presentations, lectures, conferences, and workshops; conduct literature reviews on relevant topics.
• Assist with events, marketing, and communications, including logistical support for student events and distribution of electronic announcements.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

This is a two-year term appointment.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree and 1 to 2 years of experience or equivalent. A bachelor's degree in social science with extensive training in statistical analysis and a strong quantitative background. Strong proficiency in R, experience writing survey research questionnaires, and excellent writing and communication skills. Must be independent, hard-working, self-motivated, and creative.
