Data Steward

Job description

Over the past decade, the amount of digital information has exploded, also within healthcare. This data offers tremendous opportunities for research and innovation. Initiatives such as the European Health Data Space (EHDS) and Health-RI focus on (inter)national collaboration between diverse data sources. Solid Research Data Management (RDM) is the basis for this. To better support and guide researchers, we are looking for a data steward. Do you believe in the power of data-driven healthcare? Are you an enthusiastic professional who enjoys promoting FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable), modelling data, and supporting researchers? Then we are looking for you!

As a data steward within the RTC-DS, you are the expert in data for scientific research and serve as a point of contact for researchers from various departments within Radboudumc and regional partners. You also support local data stewards located within these departments or regional partners. The ideal candidate has knowledge of (and experience with) the FAIR principles, RDM requirements, and semantic interoperability.

Within Radboudumc, the RTC-DS plays a leading role in developing and promoting RDM and FAIR policies (including for local data stewards).

Tasks and responsibilities

  • Ensuring the visibility and adoption of FAIR RDM (together with your colleagues).
  • Developing and promoting RDM policies and FAIR processes.
  • Semantic modelling of data, with a focus on clinical routine-care data.
  • Supporting and training local data stewards within Radboudumc and regional partners.
  • Drafting standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and manuals.
  • Participating in national initiatives such as the Digital Competence Center for Life Sciences and Health and Health-RI.
  • Contributing to the registration of datasets and clinical data in the Radboud Data Repository and the National Health Data Catalogue.
  • Supporting researchers with their Data Management Plans (DMPs).
  • Developing training materials on RDM, FAIR principles, tooling, applications, and infrastructure, and delivering these within the organization (e.g., through teaching sessions).

Requirements

As a data steward, you are service-oriented, possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, and take responsibility with a problem-solving mindset. You are used to working independently with a high degree of autonomy.

You also recognize yourself in the following profile:

  • A completed (bio)medical or life sciences university degree, ideally combined with experience in (bio)medical research or a PhD.
  • Experience with research data management and data analysis.
  • Experience with the FAIR principles and preferably the DCAT metadata standard.
  • Knowledge of (and experience with) semantic interoperability.
  • Ability to translate complex topics into clear and accessible language.
  • Strong command of English, both spoken and written, and comfortable communicating in English with your (international) colleagues within Radboudumc.
  • A natural networker who enjoys connecting with and learning from similar organizations and initiatives.
  • Proficiency in Dutch at B1 level or higher.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 2 years.

At Radboud university medical center, you build on your future. We are committed to providing the best care, education, and research. And we are true to our word, because we help you develop and seize opportunities and give you the room to grow. As an employer, we believe that employees should feel vital and happy at work in all stages of life. We are also committed to creating a healthy and safe working environment. • A gross monthly salary between € 3.765 and € 5.160 (scale 9) for full-time employment (36 hours per week). You will also receive an 8% holiday allowance, an 8.3% end-of-year bonus, and, depending on the position, an allowance of 47% to 72% for working irregular hours.
  • 176 vacation hours per year based on a 36-hour working week.
