Job Summary

The Dean for Administration and Finance, reporting to the Danoff Dean of Harvard College, supports and sustains the overall financial budgeting and administrative services of the College’s units, including the Dean of Students Office, the Office of Undergraduate Education, the Office for the Arts, the Office of Student Services, the Phillips Brooks House Center for Public Service and Engaged Scholarship, and the Harvard College Dean’s Office. With oversight of the College’s operating budget, the Dean will advance institutional priorities, navigate challenges, improve efficiencies, facilitate collaboration, foster a welcoming community, and manage expenses, assets, and resources.

Job Specific Responsibilities

  • Financial Management: Serve as Harvard College’s chief financial officer, collaborating on financial reporting, budgeting, planning, internal controls, policy implementation, and resource stewardship.
  • Financial Reporting and Budget Management: Lead resource planning for sustainability, prepare financial analysis, and provide budgetary guidance to the Danoff Dean.
  • Department Administration: Participate in senior leadership, support strategic planning, ensure coordination, and monitor progress on priorities.
  • Resource Management: Oversee allocation of staff and physical resources to support key priorities.
  • Development: Analyze priorities and facilitate fundraising by liaising with university development officers.
  • Management: Lead the Administration and Finance team, supervise key staff, and assemble cross-College teams.
  • Human Resources: Partner on organizational development, employee relations, and recruitment.
  • IT: Oversee IT administration in conjunction with University partners.

Working Conditions

Minimum 3 days per week on-campus, with possible additional days and occasional evening or weekend work.

Qualifications

  • Basic: 15+ years of financial and administrative experience, Bachelor’s Degree, and 5+ years of supervisory experience.
  • Additional: Graduate degree preferred; experience in strategic planning, analytics, communication, advising senior leaders, team building, and complex environments like higher education.
